News Bonus Weekend: Trade & Engineering (24/05 to 30/05)

The Materials Trader is your friend -- do a little cross-leveling and it's easy to take advantage of this sale. If you Google "Inara material trader" you'll easily get a link to show you where the nearest ones to you are without having to use the ill-conceived in-game UI for that.

For my part, I love this sale, even though I did a ridiculous amount of engineering earlier this week (naturally!) ...but I'll also admit that I'm a compulsive material hound -- no matter where I'm going in any multi-role ship, I'll almost *always* check out each USS and drop into all that resolve as HGEs, Combat Aftermath, and Encoded Emissions signal sources. And while in supercruise, I scan any ship that comes into my sensor cone. And slup up the mats from all large-hull pirates that are silly enough to interdict me (all the large-hull ships drop nice mats, especially the T-10!). Those activities help break up the monotony a little bit for me. And I usually choose the mats or data type options when running missions rather than just the cash. So I usually, effortlessly, keep around 70-100 of each material and many of the data types (except for the G5 mats, which I rarely seem to get about 40-60.

This is what I need to learn to do! [up]

@Camisade what platform do you navigate the ED universe on?

Has anyone figured out yet, what the trading bonus is? My profits are exactly as calculated with ETN, but after the sale my totals are actually significantly less than what they should be (balance plus price of sold goods). I.e. negative bonus?

Hey, did this event finish early? I thought it was 11am (GMT) on the 30th? I farmed like crazy and just managed to get to Palin to engineer a bunch of drives... and its all normal engineering materials. So it finished on the 29th NOT the 30th?? I'm on PS4

OK, just checking my email from Frontier: "BONUS WEEKEND now live" and it definately states on there that the event finishes at 11am UTC... but it is now 5:33am UTC, and this ended late last night UTC on the 29th. Regardless, it should still be active right now. Phew took me all weekend just to farm, then got here and its switched back... cosmic bummer

Should be still active, but I just checked in-game and they've reverted - INARA is out of date again ;)

Indeed, I'd converted a load more mats and was in the middle of an engineering trip when it all suddenly changed. Now I don't have enough of the required materials and a load that are largely useless :(

Holy cow this is confusing - two threads about this event in this forum!

The other one is slighty more ambiguous about the end-time :

Date and Time: From today to (approximately) 11:00 AM UTC on May 30.

... but it should still be active (approximately). Note for next time FD - leaving a bonus active past the end-time will gain you less complaints than the opposite. I would suggest reactivating for an extra day to say sorry.

Yep, according to timeanddate.com right now it's 09:08 UTC so there should have been two hours left. Someone didn't do their math well it seems :p

You're joking me. So it's finished? I just got the materials I needed to upgrade my long range pulse lasers, went to apply the next level mod and it kept coming up with a server error... What a waste of materials then. Now I've got to go and get at least 20 thermic alloys and biotech conductors to properly upgrade my pulses. It was the second to last thing I needed to upgrade on my Python before it was completely engineered. Frustrating as all hell, if you ask me.

It changed halfway through upgrading my missiles. I was very confused when my first rack needed polymer capacitors and the second military supercapacitors...

The email was much more specific: "Date and Time: From today to 11:00 AM UTC on May 30."

I would agree with your suggestion as a reasonable workaround.

Yeah, tell me about it. I just lost several days accumulating materials... an entire day getting 7 ships worth of modules stored & shipped... only to learn the bonus had expired.

Would it really be that difficult to give us a timer, or push some in-game warnings?

Actually, there should of been around 11 or more hours left as it went off on the 29th around midnight UTC, it was supposed to finish aprox 11am on the 30th, not midnight on the 29th

If you look at the time stamp on my above post, that was first reported here at 4:34 GMT, which is 3:34 UTC time (actual game time). At that time I had already been flaffing around for ages trying to figure out what to do with my dilemna, and being totally dumbfounded that I had just wasted an entire weekend farming my off, and had yet not actually got any engineering done, which was the whole point. This went off around midnight on the 29th
