I was stunned at that as well. 16 trophies in 2 1/2 years.

Leaving on top of the game has advantages.
He will be remembered in a good light. By fans and general football public as well

Usually when a coach is leaving the team, it's as a public enemy #1 after a very bad year for the club, or something like that. :)

Yes he did the same thing when he was a player

However, as a coach, he said that he still has time to become coach of the team of France

So ... in few years ?

Maybe with Real it was a case of "Been there, done that".
Maybe he just lacks motivation to continue couching once he collected all the trophies.

It's like with gaming. You've been through the game several times, you got all the achievements. Even if you really love the game, you will find yourself struggling to play it again.

So he still has the France team

His ultimate challenge

Yeah very much. Zidane is probably the only coach that could command the total respect of the French dressing room (notoriously partisan and difficult), no matter what players are in it.

I tried to get Zidane to play for Swansea in FM (older version 09 or 10 iirc) but had to settle for Trezeguet ;)

Zidane is for my money the best player that ever played, right up there with Pele and Messi etc. Seems a pretty top draw coach also!

Real was pretty iffy this year, performing really poorly in the league. The CL trophy is great, but he is wise enough to know that he needed a lot of luck to make it happen, and I dont mean just in the final. Next year would have been a disaster if he carried on, so it makes perfect sense to leave as an absolute legend. I also wonder what the role of CR is, hinting at leaving pretty much until Zidane left...
