Do not distinguish visually a person or NPC

This was raised in beta and they said they'd think about it. I doubt they'll do anything about it now. On the other hand the dead horse that is powerplay continues to get regular beatings.

I've suggested the same for ages and it would make PvP easier as nobody would be able to go "oh a player let's avoid em".

Ehhhh, I don't like the idea of not knowing who is a player and who is an NPC. But I'd say to have no distinction until after a proper scan, then you can know if it's a player.

Stop the whining about Open mode. If you don't want to take the chance of getting wiped then play in Private or Solo and leave Open the players that can handle it. Personally I don't mind running into other players in Open and testing my metal against them. Isn't that kind of the point? To interact with other people you don't know? If FDev makes it hard to distinguish live players then that all goes away and you basically have another version of Solo mode.

1) I find it best not to address the Open mode #@$!-show (full disclosure: I'm open only, unless I'm making avatars for people, or ship pics for the wiki)

2) While I disagree with having non immediately identifiable players, there is a conversation on having a cloaking device. Just set limits, like timeframe (works for 20 seconds or less), heat can disrupt it (shorts it out), cancels upon scan (duh).

Tweaked, it's not a terrible idea.

This could be done by keeping the CMDR prefix to pilot names. I do think it would add extra exciting "tension" to get rid of hollow icons, however, thus making it the pilot's responsibility to track other CMDRs.

You might be onto something there, Old Duck!

What is the purpose of the NPC in the game Elite?
Why are there messages from the NPC about war, about the liner, about the wedding, and so on?

Frankly I want to know who is the player for the opposite reason than a regular PvP-er - so that I can say hi and leave him/her alone. A few days ago I had a great chat with a CMDR on the way to Selene Jean. 12kLs can be lonely.

Anyway, I like knowing whom I can chat with.

Never liked that idea, it would be the death of the o7 salute between passing ships :(

See, you boys have the right idea! +1 rep for both.

I do not like the his idea at all. There be no point in playing other players it might as well be single player game if we couldn’t tell the difference. Plus as a fuelrat how would I rescue clients in a busy instance ? The only maker I’d have is the blue wing beacon. But I wouldn’t be able to identify any threats to a possible client in a high dense space, be it a player or npc.

Add to play the option of turning on and off the notation that you are human.

+1

No reason for the distinction. It enables gankers and griefers while adding nothing.

Players can reach out if they want to contact other players. The hollow squares just empower trolling and Griefing for no reason.
