Do you like reading (or listening to audiobooks)?

Especially when the subject matter is Elite: Dangerous based?

If so, I want to turn your attention to our community's work.
1) Every week in the Fan Creation forum, we have a Drabble competition. Anyone can enter. Write 100 words based in the Elite universe and using that week's theme. We had 14 entries this week with "Death/Beef" as the theme (it was a roundabout way to get one of our mods, Psykokow, killed off in various ways.)
The stories are then put into a poll, and lately Psykokow has been providing us with an Audio version: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=35155
Sometime Monday we'll have the next theme, which will be posted in our main thread, and people can write and enter their drabbles here: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5777

2) The Thargoid and Fer-de-Lance thread is a great read where the role-playing community has been writing stories about their characters and interacting with each other. If you like to RP, be sure to check it out: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=4577

3) Our very talented fiction writers who got to write and publish their work based in the Elite: Dangerous universe have their own forum. I'm finishing up the last book myself and have enjoyed reading them. My personal favorites were Drew Wagar's "Reclamation", Allen Stroud's, "Lave Revolution", and Kate Russell's "Mostly Harmless". So hit up the forum and learn more here: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=45

After all, if you don't have your flight stick (or M/KB) in hand, piloting your ship, you might as well enjoy the rest of what we have to offer!

I love reading books, I can even read ebooks, I don't mind watching videos and I can sometimes make it through listening to a short podcast thing.

But an audiobook? Sorry - I just can't cope with those.

I'm not fond of audiobooks either. I mentioned it because I have a few friends who refuse to read, but they listen to books all the time. One has stayed away from the Drabbles because he'd have to read them. But now he, and countless others with that same dilapidating condition can enjoy the Drabbles as well!

Like? No but I don't really have much choice in the matter.

The problem I have is two fold with audiobooks that I have it listen to.

It needs a good reader or there is no point and getting the books I like is very hard sometimes.

I'd say use the link Erik provided to listen to this weeks Drabbles and enjoy the madness.

You can then vote for your favourite..........if you know what I mean........Horse/Bed scene in The Godfather......say no more....;)

Audiobook samples

I wonder if there are audiobook samples available? This would make the decision of whether or not a reader is pleasant to listen to so much easer :)

I prefer to read (I read a lot) over audio books. The main reason being I sometimes re-read something to provide context for a later situation. It's pretty easy to do in a book or with an e-reader but is more difficult with audio. I also tend to focus better when physically reading whereas audio can become background noise if I'm not particularly engaged in the current scenario, I still skim-read on occasions but it's less frequent and I still absorb more.

Every night I go for a 1hour walk, and audiobooks are an awesome way to ignore the pain in my legs/knees back and helps me get through it.

:D

I also find reading the drabbles is a bit of fun!

Read? no... if a menu is too long I don't bother... as for audio books... nothing would send me to sleep faster than that (other than American sports)
