Regular viewers might have noticed that Ive gone a bit quiet, and this is in one part an explanation and one part about how sad this world makes me sometimes.

So, picture the scene...first class day sun shining, few messages to run in the city and had dogs with me...pair of jack russells. Went to a dog park that I dont normally go to and, feeling good about the day, left my walking stick in the car cos I wasnt going far.

Large open field above the treeline that borders the upper lagan river...theres a sorta bmx and drinking hangout down that way that kids use down there, best to keep dogs away from that. So anyway, spotted another dog running free just inside the treeline hard to miss it was almost all white...knew the dog breed as a fighting breed even from the distance I was at and decided to start back.

Looked over my shoulder and guess what was racing in my direction at full pelt? It was on the smaller of my two almost immediately and after somewhat of a struggle, I tore its ear off and it leg go only to then go for the larger but more timid of my two and got her almost by the throat.

Ill spare the details as my cross to bear...every second of what happened has been burned into my memory and I now need meds to sleep, or I dont sleep. Ive known violence in my life...but this was something else.

The sad part? After I jammed my car key into its skull...was trying to get its eye but english pitbulls are very strong...trust me on this and Im a fairly big guy meself. A dog whistle went and it answered the call immediately...the owner casually put a choke chain on his dog then turned and walked away like nothing had happened. Take from that what ye will but both the police and the wardens agree it sounds like it was intentional...that how dogs are trained to fight which is why it wont attack humans, only other dogs.

I have a knife built into my walking stick, the one day I didnt bring it. My dogs are both survivors though both had serious injuries and both required emergency surgery...both at home now but almost lost them. I dont partake much on facebook but friends of mind posted pictures and literally half the country knew within hours.

He will be found...eventually either by me m8s or by the peelers...lotta people are very angry about this over here and there aint many of those dogs over here as they are an illegal breed and can only be owned with a licence.

Oh fear not, while I do have anger issues, I myself wouldnt dream of lifting a finger to such a gentle soul...but then again, Im the least of his worries now...and that thought makes me smile and give my two an extra little piece of bacon to share that little bit of joy with the two who deserve it the most.

Tis a sad world when ye think to yerself that this is the sorta stuff that happens to other people, and not you...and then one day, it happens to you and ye realize two things. First of all, yer dogs were nothing more than someones bit of morning fun, a training regime fer a dog not bred fer its good looks. The second thing ye realize is that when it all settles down, yer now nothing more than a statistic...another number on an ever growing list of similar incidents, although this one was particularly vicious.

Tis like silence of the lambs only its not lambs screams I hear in my mind over and over when I close my eyes...its my dogs who never stood a chance...that sound will forever haunt me.

Believe it or not, Im still playing the game...but me head is all over the place...so ye will mayhaps forgive my little rant here while noting its possibly the last thing Ill write fer a bit...need to sort me head out and the game is an escape, the forum is a brain fart and more drama than I need atm.

TLDR...fix yer damned game cos Im still here and its still the best place to escape to and I still love it...and while I play the game, that all I got left to say fer a bit...fly safe cmdrs ^

don't blame the dog, it's the person who raised it, i own two pits and they don't do this unless i order them to.
the best defense against pits are to take their rear legs and raise them up, they don't feel pain as other dogs so hitting them wont help.

I'm sorry for what happened but please don't judge the dog.

What happened is very sick and sad. Hope your pets had a good recovery and you yourself get back to normal soon.

Next time put yourself between the dogs, they know very well they can't get through you. A pit attacking image can be very vicious, try to get rid of it, time will do.

Sorry for this happening to you.

Not the dog's fault and the idea that breed determines or trumps training/conditioning is a fallacy. You can train almost anything to attack and plenty "fighting breeds" make docile pets. The overwhelming majority of the bulldogs I've encountered were bought as pets and aren't any more dangerous than other dogs of similar size. Making certain dogs illegal on the assumption that they are inherently more dangerous than others sounds like a potentially self-fulfilling prophecy.

they don't feel pain as other dogs so hitting them wont help.

Pain compliance in general is an unreliable tool. Either restrain, or inflict injuries that are debilitating even if they can't be felt at all.

Glad you're alive.
Glad your dogs are alive.
Very sorry about your trauma.
I hope the dogs have a swift recovery.
You too.
Got plenty of things to say not appropriate for the forums.
Love. Respect. Try to reach out if you start bouncing off the walls.

I am really sorry to hear that. There are some truely sick people out there. Really please your dogs are okay. I have pets too and they are a part of the family.

And rant away, perfectly excusable and expected. Talking about things like this is always best and can help in the long run.

It is indeed a sick world with some right, see you next tusedays in it. Anyone who partakes in this sort of thing will hopefully get whats coming to them. I know two wrongs dont right but somone should have a have a word.

Its a shame you cant do what my farther in law did to the Boar that almost killed one of his hunting dogs, it made for some good eating.:)

Know exactly how you feel, we almost lost our 11mth old puppy 'Archie' a few weeks ago to an attack by a Staffie.

Totally unprovoked. It just went for him. Not on a lead or muzzled.

Archie spent four days in hospital, three operations and is now a changed dog. Very nervous and reactive. And if I see the other bloke again with his dogs not on a lead... don't know what I will do.

He's been reported to the dog warden - they won't do anything, they only deal with strays

He's been reported to the RSPCA - they won't do anything, the only deal with arranged fights

He's been reported to the police - they went and told him off! But not doing anything else.

Wee update to that cos I wasnt strictly sober when I wrote the op. My two will recover, have pictures but they are fairly graphic so I wont post them...there might be a few who know me here on facebook, pictures are there and have had 2k shares since monday. Someone will know something and when we find him...and we will find him sooner or later...well then...that will make fer an interesting weekend and thats all Im gonna say about that.

And no Im not blind...walking stick needed cos Im disabled and have MS, though this was a very good day fer me and if I absolutely dont need it, I wont use it. Guys gotta grab these little moments of dignity when they present themselves cos one day, I wont be able to.

Im ok apart from the mental trauma...got a few bites on me right arm which aint bad because I had my tee shirt wrapped around my arm when I took it on...it bit hard but not hard enough to break the bones and I hurt it more than it hurt me. But I also aint slept since monday cos me heads done in...partly from anger at the guy responsible and frustration that we havent found him yet...I wanna find him because the police wont do anything more than a fine anyway...thats not enough fer me. Take from that what ye will cos Im not someone who will just walk away from something like this...Im not designed that way.

But however...my two are recovering at home as I write this...they will be fine I care little about the cost which was considerable. Its just money cant take it with ye when ye die and I treat the two of them like my own family. When we find who owns that dog, he will pay...one way or another...ye can read about it on the evening news afterwards. Ive said the exact same thing to the police today when giving statements...thats how much I care about consequences ^

I've been in exactly the same position, and genuinely exact, as my two dogs are Jacks as well.

Fudge & Benji.

Sadly the two are going their seperate ways tomorrow when I move. It's necessary to get Benji used to being on his own, as Fudge is very old now. So Fudge is coming with me while Benji will live with my sister.

I have a staffie that I have raised since she was a pup. She attacks everything with four legs. She does not like animals at all. I treat her no differently than I did with my previous dogs, who were never a problem. There is something in a staffie that just wants to fight or kill. I recommend dog owners if you see a staffie wandering then by god pick your dog/s up. If the staffie is on a lead, do not let your dog go up to that staffie. I ecounter people with their dogs off the lead daily and they let their dogs come up to my staffie, who will then silently lunge at them, snapping like a crocodile.

Funny thing is she loves kids and people.

...Verm, sorry to hear about this incident. I hope your dogs together make a full recovery. Had a jack russle myself many years ago, they are a nice breed, very entertaining and enthusiastic I thought.
Some humans need a visit to the vets themselves, to be put out of their misery. I very much dislike bad people who train animals badly (if that’s the case here)....

Time will make things seem better again, and you still have that excellent bond between yourself and your dogs. \o/

All the best for speedy recovery of your two Jacks.

My 13yr old Whippet-cross (on the lead) was attacked by a Collie and nearly killed. Collies are working sheepdogs who by nature run in from the side to nip at sheep in order to get them to move or just because they can. This one did just that and took a chunk out of my dog's side.

The owner kept on walking past without saying a word. I shouted to stop them and got their names and addresses after some active discussion. They refused to pay or admit that their dog had attacked ours. The police didn't want to know and didn't even follow-up until I made a formal complaint against the police. The owners continued to walk their dog unmuzzled past our house on the way to their favourite walking spot.

I made the decision to walk our dog on private land (local farmer's fallow fields) once she had recovered and she kept on going until her back-end finally gave way 3 years later. I am so pleased that I took the decision not to walk her in public areas. She had a great quality of life and fully enjoyed the uninterrupted walks across and around the fields.

I've chosen not to walk my Jack Russell anywhere public also. She now enjoys her own private walks across fields and only has to go on the lead near roads. I chose to do it so we could both enjoy our walks, and we do (with Tennis Racket and ball)!

When I walk Fudge I scoop her up into my arms whenever I see a suspect dog. I am not letting her get hurt.

don't worry about the jerk. it's just a random jerk, there's thousands of them around, some of them even rule the world. move on.

Sad indeed. You're angry and sad for the little ones, understandably so. Just take care, if only so you can be around to hand out the extra treats; you'll be making them fatter with, from now on. As you said, 2,000 shares; so that is a lot of other angry people, to take up arms; maybe.

The evil here, is not the white dog. It is the guy that calmly called his dog back to him and walked away. As you said: He will be found and dealt with; hopefully, while you are at home, dishing out the love.

Feeling for you and them.
