Bethesda's new IP "Starfield" slowly surfaces

No chance of that. If you follow their paper thin plots you'll be done in 10 hours. Of course you may still want to see a doctor for that. :)

I think you didn't get what Bethesda games are about.
The "main story" is just another (slightly longer) quest, but that's not it. The whole magic is in immersing yourself into the world and simply do whatever.

No I get it. That's just not what I'm into, which is fine because other people are into it. As I said earlier they don't do story and character.

Heh, I'm the opposite here. Have gone through all the main series ES titles since Arena, even fooling around in Battlespire, yet never even bothered touching ESO.

I hear you - I have all the ES games but never got too far in because friends invite me to play something else. But I get why they are so popular for those who enjoy SP.

That's why I'm hoping this has MP, and competition would be good for ED, SC, etc.

Only if it what you think it is. Would be funny if it ended up being a generic FPS.

I'm not sure that is a good thing.

I actually agree with both of you. I've read too many negative reviews on Amazon about the console version of ED that complain about the very things I enjoy about the game. If Starfield is designed to make those players happy, then I'll pass.

Now if Bethesda gives us "Skyrim in Space" (I'm particularly thinking in regards to the immersive world, lore, and narrative - and of course, flyable space ships), then I might be taking a long, extended vacation from Elite Dangerous. Skyrim had tons of faults, but its strengths kept me almost exclusively in that game for well over a year.

I just hope Bethesda isn't taking its cues from Fortnite..... [blah]

Well, it doesn't matter, now. As it turns out Starfield isn't Bethesda next release, but a next release after Fallout 76, so... we'll see in two years how this thing turns out.

What? Of course ED won't die in next two years. What does it have to do with Starfield?

In the Dangerous Discussion forums people have lately started saying Starfield will kill ED. X4 will also kill ED. And SC. Its basically whenever there is any hint of any game being vaguely related to space, people will start saying it will kill ED. :p

Source? I'm way out of the loop. :p

Ah, I see. Well, we know how it turned out previously on every occasion, so... yeah. :)
I haven't actually visited Dangerous Discussion for couple of weeks, now. So it's me who's out of the loop. Hell, if Elite dies, I won't even know it! :p

No particular source of this, only what is apparent from their interviews and tidbits of information.

They clearly stated that their new IP (Starfield - I still think it's more of a project code name rather than actual name of the game) is a priority for them. They said it when they were asked about The Elder Scrolls VI. They said that they want to focus on the new IP first, before the next TES game.
From that, most of the people deducted that Starfield is what's coming next (possibly this E3) and then the Fallout 76 came kind of out of nowhere. So logically, I assume that on this E3 they're going to announce Fallout, then a year or two after that we will get the Starfield project and then, maybe five or more years from now, next TES.

In any case, E3 is almost upon us and we should have some solid info soon. :)

According to Todd Howard, Bethesda Game Studios didn't want to be the studio that made an Elder Scrolls game, then a Fallout game, then an Elder Scrolls game again. It's probably good for the studio if they can do a sci fi game as sci fi has been on their wish list for a long time (actually, they were interested in sci fi during the last production months of Oblivion, before acquiring the license for Fallout).
I am however worried that they still use the ancient Creation Engine for Starfield.

I can sympathize with that. But they should have solved that problem by simply dropping Fallout. [yesnod]

Contrary to popular opinion, I think it would be a huge shame. I love all three of their Fallouts. I love the original two for nostalgic reasons, but the new ones are those I keep returning to.
