Day/Night cycle discussion

Why would people be walking around a zoo at night watching Dinosaurs sleep though? I don't see what use there'd be for floodlights - if anything, in this setting, it would disturb the animals.

Frontier have claimed that they have captured the JP feel, I disagree when it comes to nighttime. If you think back to the movies, the main climactic events happen at night and therefore they should invest more time to creating a believable, JP nighttime.

Heres a short list of the cool things that happened at night:

T-rex break out
Nedry dies
T-rex chase scene
Brachiosaurus tree scene
Trex's attack the trailer
raptors in the long grass/compound scene

etc.

It needs to be treated well. Dinosaur breakouts aren't that scary during day time.

Also, as I said, perhaps some of the dinosaurs become more active at night. There could even be nighttime tours for guests and stuff, I don't know man haha

Also also, Floodlights help the player see the dinosaurs! Instead of having a semi-dark night which kind of looks half-way between sunset and dawn, they could have a properly dark night that you need the use of floodlights to see around the park. It would add a spooky factor also. AHHHH I have so many ideas for nightime improvement haha

From the cinematic perspective, having things happen at night adds to the thrill and the scare; IIRC the I-Rex fight in JW was a night-time scene too. As far as a park goes, there's a good chance that (most) dinosaur would be sleeping at night - especially if they're active and walking around in the day. Guests would also be sleeping (for the most part; I'm sure some of them would be eating out and drinking etc).

It does beg the question as far as this game goes though why there are hotels, but that may be accommodation reasons; the more hotels you have, the more guests your park can accommodate? In any case, this is a more a park management game, and not a scare factor game. I can see the appeal to the point you're trying to get across, but ultimately am not convinced it's warranted. That said, I know we all want different things out of this game, so your desires are no more valid than the next guy/gal.

I would however rather them focus on attractions, gameplay, animations and fighting (etc) than to implement night time. As it currently stands each park is set in a specific time-zone. To add a day/night cycle would completely take away from that element of gameplay.

I think you're forgetting a few things. For a start, the dinosaurs are yet to sleep AT ALL right now haha. Secondly, they aren't real animals; the devs can program them to behave anyway they want. In nature, carnivores are usually more active at night anyway. I would LOVE raptors to become more active at night for example. You could have the majority of the herbivores sleeping and the carnivores active etc.

The whole point of the differentiation between day and night is that the park becomes a different park at night. The guests are asleep so the park feels empty and the dinosaurs start exhibiting all these different behaviours. It would make it feel like a real park with real animals.

I've also specified that the day/night cycle should happen on Nublar and Nublar alone. Therefore that wouldn't interfere at all with the time zones on the 5 islands.

Also, you say you want them to focus on gameplay, but this IS gameplay haha.
I totally agree, however, that other things like animations etc should be worked on first and this isn't a main priority at all. I just thing it's missing a really important part that would make this feel a lot more like a JP game.

Not only that, but night time adds another layer of management to the park setting. Perhaps its better to do most of the maintenance inside the enclosures at night when the more aggressive animals are sleeping (they really should look at adding repair animations for the rangers getting out of the jeep like in the trailer as well as having the jeep and rangers capable of being attacked and killed / destroyed). Different park infrastructure could increase profits at night, a casino for example, or a firework show -that the guests love, but really agitates the dinosaurs. Some people may leave the park while others party at the hotel, go swimming in the hotel pool, etc. There is actually quite a lot of deep gameplay that can be introduced with a day night cycle.

Absolutely! There are so many thing you could do with it as well.

I believe the Island set during night time could make the game play less enjoyable.
The player would be stuck in a dark environment, it has been confirmed that you could customize dinos to have different skin coloration.

This brings me to question the interest of being able to customize dinos appearance if you cannot see their different colors because of the permanent darkness?

I remember going to the Zoo a few times as a kid and it was always a disappointment when the animals were sleeping. Cause they usually did this some where people couldn't see them. So I am sure it would boring going to a Dinosaur zoo and seeing them sleep,

You are not visiting the park yourself, you are managing it!

Again this mechanic would have a positive impact on the gameplay as it would require the player to think strategically as to how the park should be composed.
Having a park full of nocturnal dinos would have no benefits to visitors seeking diurnal dinosaurs.

It also opens the door for noctural safari mechanics where visitors could pay extra to see dinosaur during night time. The amount of visitor would be reduced as not everyone could afford/seek this experience.
Yet again another layer of game play and complexity for us to manage.

Parks have a wide range of publics, some are enthusiasts, some are looking for cold sweats, some are looking for a safari experience and see cool dinos in a realistic habitat and some have families just looking to have a good time with their peers.

Edit:
(Idea/suggestion)
You could modulate the dinos sleep patterns by genetically modifying them (since there's a gene editing mechanic).
You want your velociraptors not to be nocturnal hunters? Tweak their genes and make them more active during the day!

While that's true. I am looking at it from a guests perspective. Sleeping animals are boring. I would say this would also explain why Frontier left out sleeping.

I hear you, I hate going to zoos, spending 100s of dollars and seeing the main attractions sleeping. As some one managing a zoo I want my guests to be happy, watching a dinosaur sleep is not happy, I want them walking around, eating, drinking, mooing at each other.

I paid several thousand dollars to go to Jurassic Park/World to see the T-Rex sleep in the middle of field. Maybe it fell asleep on the other end of the enclosure and can't even be seen. Totally worth it.
