The game-ready driver is packaged with the general driver update, correct? So I just go to the link and get the automatic update?

Yes, the link points to the latest driver from Nvidia.
When I had a GTX 750 Ti I remember being able to update it from the Nvidia Shadow Play panel. I never had to go and download a driver to install. It would tell me when there was an new updated driver which was like every time a new game came out and it was annoying as hell. I was seriously updating the driver like every few weeks or so. I also did a clean install each time meaning the NVidia software would remove the old driver and install the new one.
Now you can install Nvidia Geforce Experience.
It's pretty handy as you can let the software set the optimal settings for your card for the games it supports.
You can also install new drivers without having to uninstall the former driver, the software will do that for you.
Still I do restart my computer after every update but it's not needed.
