ED Veteran Rules (Or how I reset my commander and learned to love ED again)

For me, PvP seemed like a way to improve your combat skills against other players but with little to no impact on the game itself, more like a souped up version of CQC. I would like to see an open-only CG just once and see what happens. Would enough people help traders or would it be a bloodfest? But since you can always flip between solo and open, there's no way to force an open-only CG.

My hope is that enough players will start over, follow these rules and then we'd in essence have PvP. Pirates would hang out near popular trade routes, explorers would need defense when they return. And with a private group, gankers and cheaters could be kicked. You wouldn't have to worry about over-engineered Corvettes causing havoc. A-rated condas and FDL's, sure but nothing tougher than that. Hey, I can dream...

Open only PP! I do it in a Viper 4. Rebuy is nothing.

Am I the only one with credit issues? over 600 hours and still under 500 mil in assets.. (B rated Annie with some engineer mods.) it took me almost 400 hours to get into anaconda, and about 200 more to get even some A mods.. Then again I havent used any money exploits or havent explored much.. just took Annie out for a trip to crab nebula and gonna see when I arrive in few weeks what to do: head home to do some mining/scavenging (I really enjoy SRV's driving aimlessy in planets) or I just do some more exploration around crab sector [smile]

800 hrs. About 500 mil. I don't even care.

Oh with Iron Man mode it would need to be only other Iron Man players you could meet. No snowflakes !

When you die, you get reset back to a Sidewinder and 1000cr

That's the way it was really meant to be played.

I always play this rule.

Once played all the way to Cutter/Corvette with no claims, ended up feeling just like OP. I now try to keep things small and often reset my CMDR once I hit around Python/Conda level.

Now that the second alliance ship is coming I’ve decided to set up a home base at the heart of all 3 areas of space and outfit a bunch of ships.

I like some of the rules proposed above, but I actually really enjoy my engineering ritual. I’m most at home in this game when I’m out in a salvage vessel hunting rare materials...

OP, I think you're crazy for resetting. I've instead just bought new accounts when sales come around. I think it's better to do that because I can re-live the parts I want and also skip ahead to me more completed accounts when I want to do so. It's the best of both worlds.

Exactly.

Base Commander: "You already had a chance to post Aaron T, put your hand down."

Aaron T: "Oh no Sir, I don't have hand raised because I want another turn, the tough guy bull crap is getting so deep in here it's too late to save my boots, so I'm just trying to save my arm."

This is more or less the way I've played from the day I started (about 6 months ago). I've avoided 3rd party sites for ANYTHING as much as I possibly can (I have reluctantly given in a few times, but only when my sanity was about to break). I've never done any of the well-known credit-farming schemes, and my largest (and current favorite) ship is a Python. I've been giving serious consideration to resetting my Commander simply because I'm at 500MCR in the bank now, and I have no burning desire to buy any of the bigger ships (I have no interest in ships that are unable to land at outposts). I will admit to having a weakness for CGs though - they're the only places where you can regularly find other CMDRs (both good and bad, but the vast, vast majority I've met are good) and they're about the only places I've found where I get the illusion that what I'm doing has any impact at all to Human civilization (though sadly, I know it's just an illusion).

Not sure what point I'm trying to make - I like the basic idea the OP's presenting, though it may be a bit too... realistic... for my taste (this is supposed to be a game, after all). But I can definitely see myself taking the plunge and starting from scratch again.

That's the way it was really meant to be played.

It would be great if that was supported and you could carry an official flag. I get that you can do it if you choose to but I'm not strong enough. (Survival instinct kicks in).

Hey G.man!

I was contemplating resetting my account a couple of weeks ago and, after seeing your thread, I decided to go with it. TADA!

Last time I cleared my save for the Horizons launch, and since then I did amass something like 250-300 million cr (Yes, million. With an M.), and my most flown ship is a rusty T6 (love that brick). Now... your rules are a bit too extreme for my taste, but I shall incorporate some into my gameplay, so from now on I will have:

* No more than 2 ships at a time.
* No Python or large ships (don't like them anyway).
* No insurance claims, aka Plastic-Man mode (that is, if my ship is destroyed I take the Freewinder, but keep cash and mats. Thx for Para Handy for the 'sort of' suggestion).
* Absolutely no Pew-Pew (my highest ever combat rank was Novice and I never enjoyed shooting stuff). That means some Engineers will never be unlocked, but than again, all I need is Felicity with her FSD upgrade.
* No Exploit chasing or Gold Rushing. Never done that anyway.
* Zero Grind. Don't do that anyway.

I'm having fun already.
Stay hydrated gentlemen.

Good luck to you and all of your kind!!

When I played I used to follow Hardcore (death = wipe) rules .. Reset my save I think 13 / 14 or so times. Few at the hands of players; mostly from NPCs; a couple from slamming into planets.

/respect then to you resetting your game. Keeps it fresh and challenging (to some degree).

That’s an awesome way to engage the game. I’m glad you found a great way to enjoy the game in a different way.

There is no chance in hell that I would ever do that. For me, that’s the worst idea ever!

But I thinks it’s an amazing idea and cool RP......for not me.

Thanks everyone for the great responses!

I'm actually surprised that more people have reset their account than I thought especially based on the forum posts.

I went ahead and created a Discord server called Elite Veterans if anyone wants to join. These rules aren't etched in stone and I'd like to tweak them further based on gameplay and feedback from other commanders.

The plan is Open only for now and to at least generally follow these rules for balance among other players, but would consider creating a player group if there's enough interest.

Hey Gman, I've been using Mossfoots ejection table - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=107694

Survived so far, adds a bit of tension to looking at the rebuy screen!

I've sort of played like this for sometime (with self imposed rules) but never done it in such a severe way. Ironman mode? Scary but I like the idea.
