The Best Suggestion Ever!!!! (Beyond Audio)

With the current Galnet News function with the right panel interface gave me a most excellent idea, Better than the suggestions of owning megaships, atmospheric landings and even space legs (the most plagued suggestion in that part of the forum)….

….Music!

Yep, just like you can press play with galnet audio, you can use the right panel to select music and change tracks freely!

To Store music on your Ships, a New tab is available on the launcher 'Upload media'. where you can download media files to your account in a personal fashion (much the same way online purchases are stored under your name and remembered in-game)

From here, the audio files can be directly accessed from your panel, and broadcasted across the entire cockpit. This also means in Multi-crew, your entire crew can rock to the same song!

I wouldn't mind if this was a paid function, as long as I can freely use my music (rather than use Dodgy Voicepacks or keep switching from elite dangerous to media players) Plus the in-game use would be a heap more Immersive!!

So, what's people's thoughts on this one? What would be your first song you'd download if you could? ;)

Whilst I don't mind the idea, I think this is one "feature" that is easily solved through 3rd party programs (sorry I refuse to call anything that runs on a pc an app, I'm too old school ;) ), in fact I'm sure that most pilots out there do this anyways, just load up their music player, load a playlist and then go off and do whatever they want within Elite. Also can you imagine the arguments in multi crew with your idea, when you were brought up on 70's punk rock, but the guy in charge of the music is a fan of Eurovision :p

Now the ability to have access to a variety of radio stations within game maybe more immersive ie hmm don't want to listen to Lave Radio, I'll switch stations to Radio Sidewinder etc, but even this feature would be near the bottom of a long list of priority features to be included within the game.

However to play along with your last line, whenever I set out on an exploration journey, the first song in my exploration playlist of 50k songs, is Talking Heads "we're on the road to nowhere" as I usually have little idea where I'm going to head too, other than in one of the general cardinal directions

Ahh Talking Heads...nice choice :D

Radio idea sounds great! trying to get 3rd party software however isn't having much luck.... I use Oculus and having to take off my headset, open Windows Media tab, select song then re-select my game (so I can actually control the ship) is getting a little tedious the Voicepacks are useless, can't even switch songs or even turn them off.... And have fun trying to find tutorials to fix it... not to mention you can't even contact anyone....

We have asked for a media player in the cockpit many times. The answer has always been a deafening silence. ;)

I think that goes for quite a few suggestions here haha :D even the irresistibly awesome ones.... like music :D

reason why I put this suggestion here (and not The dedicated page) is that it would fit beautifully with the Beyond side panel, also nobody really pays much attention to the suggestion page, this has received more comments than most there! :D :D

I love the idea! But I think that the music should be occasionally muted (or faded out) when something important is happening (like malfunctions, damages), so 3rd party tools won't work as expected.

Let it play FLAC files and use NAS folders and I'm delighted!

can't see why not, I was kind of thinking this before! :D

What is painfully annoying with the Galnet audio is that EVERY time you charge FSD or fuel scoops it cuts out...these are events that really are not to drastic if unnoticed. music can play over these...

For station docking, Critical messages then yes definitely a mute or auto volume adjustment. :D

A media player integrated into the game that plays files from your PC would really be great. Station radios, would be awesome, when you jump in a system you can pick a channel would be great ,but perhaps impractical to implement, but if it was limited to player factions only ... with the faction players picking the songs ...

I'd definitely like to be able to pipe particular music to the Multi-crew Pupils I take into dangerous places.

I listen to the radio, typically BBC R6, on its player/website whilst I meander around. I dont have my music on my pc. Its a game rig. My music is on my macs. I prefer to listen to teh radio personally whilst eliting, rather than my own music, for the chat etc and the live bands. I listen to Mark Rileys show most evenings, 7-9pm. Or Craig Charles funk n soul show Sat 6-9pm. For me its the perfect accompaniment. Sometimes the tunes become serendipitous. Was having a ball in a CZ and Sex Machine by James Brown came on and it was so fitting, but I guess you had to be there.

However, I would not be averse to it, but I probably would not use the feature.

One of the rare instances where I'm pleased with how it's implemented on the PS4, where access to the Spotify app is embedded in the system menu overlay and I can remotely change songs from my smartphone (which should actually be possible on PC too with the program running in the background).

I'd like an in-game media player. One that quietens for important announcements automatically.
+1

Winamp, load music, turn the volume to just a touch over the engine sound so you can still hear the computer voice telling you this and that but still enjoy the tunes. Good enough for government work...

The old Winamp. It works with my volume controls on my keyboard.

It would probably be a bit too involved for an "extra" few people might actually use, but a tool that generates an "expedition soundtrack" or "system soundtrack" by using the planet-types sounds and some additional Stellar Forge data and the time intervals between reaching different bodies, if you land on one or enter an asteroid ring.

An adaptation of that could be specific tour soundtracks that are automatically enabled when taking on a passenger.

But this more flexible music might not work so well with the orchestral prerecorded music.
