Dissatisfaction with Elite Dangerous seems to already being replicated in Jurassic Park

Let me say at the outset, I do not own JPE. I have however been following the forum, mainly because I see no reason to currently play ED in its present state.

I am astonished by the similarity of the negative posts in JWE forum (allowing for the different context) and that of ED. I was actually going to buy JWE (even though there is no VR) but I think I'll give it a miss.

Is the dissatisfaction demonstrated in the JWE forum evidence of the fact that FD are only capable of using the same 'Skinner Box' design of ED in JWE, or indeed any other game they may produce? If so, that does not bode well for the future of ED, imo of course.

Some are the same people that whinge in the ED forums go over there and say the same crap even when they haven't played the game.

There are also a lot of people that seem to enjoying the game too. But like every game ever made, it isn't perfect and will likely get better as time goes by.

Personally, it isn't for me. Not bothered about managing theme park whether they have dinosaurs in them or roller coasters.

I would pay the negative posts no mind, they are a tiny minority...the vast majority of players enjoy ED quietly.

Yep my friend list fills up most weekends in Elite, but isn't the game dead, Braben isn't interested, the dinosaur game is ruining our development, they don't tell us anything.....oh yeah that's just the empty barrels making the most noise!

Every game even the best ones (like GTA 5) have complaints and people are going to be much more vocal about dissatisfaction than about satisfaction. They expect satisfaction, so the thousands playing without any real issues, you'll never hear from them.

Metacritic says 76 metascore and 80 user score, seems to be a solid game. I do believe they used the same repetitive RNG mechanics though and I doubt that anyone at Frontier is able to design deep and meaningful game mechanics. They do excel in other areas though, which is why their games can be awesome and immersive while being absolutely shallow at the same time. Once you realised and accepted this as a truth their games become way more satisfying because you stop bothering what could be and accept it as what it is.

Not much RNG, hardly any grind, and completed in less than 10 years, so nothing like ED ;)

As others have said, moaners come to forums, not helped by some of the regulars here engaging in more Forum PvP.

ED combat is proof they can do deep and meaningful stuff, they just don't seem to put the time into it for new stuff. The whole if you play it we will develop it standpoint is flawed though.

They also added features like multicrew with little to no content for it. That needs to stop. Features need content otherwise people won't use it.

They really need to bring in some talent. That said, their most talented have certainly been working on JPE.

JWE seemed to have been rushed imo, but QA did a nice job and it's been smooth and entertaining gameplay for most. Some of the baggage of never-ending pessimism of Frontier carried over perhaps, but the release was nowhere near the outrage level of the infamous debacle of NMS' first days. Frontier will surely patch it up in the months to come with tons of additions and dlc like PC's first year so I'd bet it'll continue to have a great following.

I know you don't like to hear this, guys. But, as I see it, and judging from the evidence etc, the Frontier team only enjoy making/working on point n click strategy games.

Could be wrong, I suppose.

I mean, just a small example: Just think how relatively easy it would be to make an alternative type of planetary terrain vehicle, or two, or even three. And the hype etc they'd get for it. But they haven't.

My guess is that it's down to unrealistic expectations rather than any fault of FD. JP is basically a dino flavoured "Zoo Tycoon" there is only so far you can go with those types of games.

The problem is there isn't a reason to make a new SRV type vehicle. They made the original a bit too good. Anything else would seem like a Cobra MK IV in comparison.

What evidence is that ?.
