Engineers Thermal Vent in 3.0

I'm reading conflicting info about Thermal Vent. Can someone answer these:

Does it transfer your overall heat? So that you can use another weapon that gets your very hot and then fire Thermal Vent to offload that heat to the target. Or does it only move the heat from the Beam Laser itself to the target?

Does the effect stack, so are 2 Thermal Vents going to cool you down even more than 1?

Thermal vent has never added heat to the target, still doesn't.

Multiple thermal vent weapons do appear to have a cumulative cooling effect.

Yes, Thermal Vent will cool your ship more than the weapons that are firing them. i use 2x efficient beams with Thermal Vent and can get frost on my canopy. Heat goes down to 1%. It keeps my overcharged MCs with autoloader from heating the ship up. When I'm out of heat sinks, I sometimes use them to cool the ship enough to pop a shield cell.

I have a Huge efficient beam with the thermal vent on the FDL and I can frost the windows with it, so yes the work well.

Thermal vent beams cool at 3x their thermal load when wep capacitor is at 100%. The rate of cooling seems to drop off spectacularly as your capacitor gets lower, I don't know the exact level they cool at at 0% cap, but its probably around only 1x their thermal load. Silent running prevents the thermal vent effect from working at all.

Efficient thermal vent beams are the worst in terms of cooling per second due to having low thermal load, although when they are large or huge they can still cool your ship quite well. Short range is the best.

It's based on heat generation, so my "hotter" legacy beams cool my ship more than my 3.0 ones do.

I use them instead of heat sinks for SCBs and to cool my ship for rails etc.
I get to 0% heat pretty routinely.

Seriously?

That would mean that overcharged beams would cool much quicker than efficient.

Very interesting. Is it meant to be this way or is it a bug?

It was deliberately changed according to the patch notes.

"Thermal Vent effectiveness doubled, and no longer increases weapon's baseline heat (was 25% penalty)"

It works great on my pve Vette, 2x c4 efficient.
It gets ice cold so I can fire the SCBs at will, or spam the 2 hammers and 2 rails.

Thermal vent is amazing.

Overcharged size 3 beam with TV and a corrosive overcharged size 3 MC on a vulture, and you’ll still get ice on the windshield.

Now I’ve changed to short range on both, but same result.

For comparison heat rises to about 130 when emptying the distributor when not hitting anything

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately I already modded them to be efficient. Where does it say that the cooling effect is based on the heat output by the laser? I can't keep up with the amount of mats I wasted due to nonexistant or poor ingame description of an effect...

I don't think they actually stated it, but it was tested by players to that effect.
It does make sense based on the (sparse) descriptions made.

Nowhere (comeon, this is fdev, they aren't going to just tell you how a mechanic works, especially if its counter intuitive). I had to test them on my own. I grabbed an efficient, short range, and light weight (I wanted to see if things like dps or distro draw effected it, hence 3 beams instead of just 2) and shot a nav beacon. The short range brought me to 0% heat the fastest, the lightweight brought me to 0% a bit slower, and the efficient couldn't get below like 29%.

I got the 3x figure by calculating my ships heat output, and subtracting from it the heat dissipation rate of my ship at 29%. The number I got was like 2.995 or something, well within a margin of error.
