Modes New CMDR - Choosing Game Mode Forever

This got me thinking, would this option make sense?
*When making New CMDR, you choose one - Open or Solo/Private, and you cant switch between them*

this makes actually a lot of sense, but not to frontier. one of their sales pitch is 'you can have it all'. which indeed sounds nice ...

(yes, it has already been discussed several times, but don't worry, the forum is a circular universe)

Two separate modes, simular to how NMS allows one to play in various modes. Though the data is included and available to all modes, the actual play in one is separate than the other. Most games that I've seen, offer an Easy mode, a Medium mode of sorts and an Hard mode of sorts. Having two modes which allows one to play in both simotaniously, by simply switching back and forth at will, is assinine. One should have to Log on in open or log into solo. Basically, two separate and individual modes. Simular to an online game and the same game in off line; Which ED had originally, but the DAVID, got rid of.

I'm sure FDev will be delighted at doubling their maintenance costs of keeping two separate instances of the servers, BgS etc running!

So, I've got this plan to buy new CMDR and play exclusively in Open without ever going to other mode. For funzies, and i don't PvP... this should be good!
Not so original, I know, as there are people who go Iron Man mode etc.

It's like PvP vs PvE servers in WoW or other MMOs.
You can switch to another with payed in-game services, each time costing you money.

This could solve a huge number of problems, because especially when playing in Open, there is no way out! (Unless you pay to switch to Solo)
Of course, a sane developer would make the worlds Open and Solo/Private separate, but I'm not sure if FDev would do that.

Thoughts? Sorry, if it was already discussed...

Please keep me posted with updates after you get blown up at engineers bases and cgs.
Seriously though, this idea isa recurring hit and one of the dumbest out there. I bet your convictions dont outlast your first engineers visit or first visit to davs hope.

I like changing modes to suit what I want at the time, so it wouldn't interest me. My internet is patchy as well so I'm frequently stuck in solo even if I don't feel like it.

Also a large number of the loudest open only proponent grind money, engineer and clear bounties in solo so I wouldn't take what they want you to do at the menu seriously at all.

Choice is good. Restrict yours if that's what you like, but let everyone else do their own thing.

What evidence do you have for that claim?

Lots of people only play in open, myself included.

I ususally switch to private when i vist engineers bases, unless i forget, which has happened, but if you arent switching modes at davs hope to make the most of it, you should. Youll do better gathering materials.

The inara base in hermitage? I actually like davs hope, you get to say hi to the other cmdrs tool around in your srvs and then you can switch to solo to hunt mats.

I use one of the Dav's clones (have it saved in my bookmarks, don't recall the system atm), and make a point of visiting various surface installations from Cannon Research.

It's bizarre how you can run still into another Cmdr in the middle of nowhere!

If they separated everything, BGS, Powerplay, Story, etc. That would be cool, and sure, lock CMDRs to their chosen modes.

The salty tears from certain "open only" proponents would be glorious as well.

Splitting the player base up even more and taking away their freedom of choice after the intial decision. Yep, that would bring a lot of players back....to other games. Good night ED.

As NMS sky has become more popular since the NEXT update, I could foresee more people heading that way.

Heck, I even bought it when it was on sale and have spent more hours in that recently than Elite.
It has better instance control and if someone joins your game you don't want there, you can kick them out, so win win for me :)

I have really been enjoying NMS Next although some of the color combinations that show up do hurt the eyes from time to time.

The idea of locking a commander into one mode for the life of the character seems like a horrible idea. Many of the PewPewers have stated they use solo for building up their credits to support the PvP monkey on their back.

Locking someone into solo for the rest of their characters life would punish those that take the advice of the PvP pros to learn in solo then come to open.

I cant see how locking someone in a mode is beneficial to anyone to be honest.

It isn't.

A chunk of those demanding it are only demand mode locking now they have built up their cash reserves in Solo/PGs
If Frontier said they were going to bring out mode locking, but all saves would be wiped first, I bet quite a few people would suddenly shut up about it.

Mode locking suggestions have never had anything to do with making the game better.

Another of these threads. *yawn*
.
If your suggestion would be implemented, I'd sure be limited to solo, simply for technical reasons. Once every few days, when there's other players nearby, the "awesome" P2P logic selects somebody to be host, who is not suitable for that. You can't blame the people. My computer also runs all cores over 80% load when ED is active, according to the hardware monitor software. But if ED then decides that a computer already at the capacity limit is now the "fake server" and controls NPCs and positioning (I can see when that happens to my computer, as all cores then are over 90%), there's plenty of rubberbanding going on.
.
So, forcing people to stick to one mode is basically enforced solo. Ponder again if this is what you want.
