Fiction Sequels are on their way

At FantastiCon, Michael confirmed that more books will be coming and that the details will be sorted out next year. Also a couple of the authors have already started their sequels so hopefully we will have more Fantastic books to read in a couple of years or so.

Frontier will no doubt offer author packages again, this time around I would hazard a guess that Frontier will make the licence cheaper and taking a slice of any profits to reflect this. im surprised that the current books are not currently available in the store.

This is fantastic news! Thank you for letting us know, and big thanks to Michael for continuing to encourage our writers!

presumably they are waiting for all of the content to be finished before doing so so that they can all be promoted together or when the game is finished.

I thought they said that they would look at it in the New Year. Whilst he was definitely positive, he still left himself with some room to wiggle out of it!

I would hope that they have an application process to avoid let downs.

But hey, they will make the right decision

Though Im really relishing the book by Allen Stroud :Lavian Tree Grub : Life Cycle

OOH it will be awesome

Is he going to annoy FD by using cloning tech to bring them back from extinction :)
To do so, we might have a few missions to search for a near genetic relative from another system.

I distinctly remember the word 'maybe' in Michael's reply!:p

so 'confirmed' might well be putting it rather strongly :)

That's okay, because us masses can have a pretty powerful voice. And if we have money to spend, that should make everyone interested in the well-being of the company to sit up and listen.

He might have said maybe but I took it to mean that sequels are definite but they didn't know when exactly or what form they are going to take and that discussion will happen next year so after FD talk amongst themselves after the new year we will know for sure how those writer packs are going to be handled. Obviously they could decide that it is not worth pursuing but with so many fans wanting more books and it being an income stream for them and with the current authors enthusiastic in writing more (and at least one or two books with sim work already started), it would be foolish of them to not have sequels so since we know that FD have sequels in their sights, it will happen (in my view).

Yep, that's what I heard as well. Having spoken to a couple of the authors, they're certainly not taking it for granted. It may well happen (and it would be great if it did for a whole bunch of reasons), but perhaps we shouldn't get too far ahead of ourselves just yet...

I'm sorry, I was there listening at Fantasticon, and there was no MAYBE at all....

There was however a "we'll have to look into that next year"

Which one of the audience, for authors question time, took to mean yes there will be and who's got a sequel lined up :p (Drew of course has)

I think you're very much overstating this. Michael said they'd look at it next year, nothing more. Us authors have been badgering Frontier about this, as you can imagine, and their line throughout has been that they'd consider things after seeing the sales of the current books and after the game is released.

Discussions are in hand :) We've only just gotten the printed books, so it's only now we can look into some of the proper logistics for distribution.

Fingers crossed it goes trough, books and authors have big community support and it is hard to dispute their success in their goals (introducing people to ED world). It all now comes down to numbers and FD further marketing strategy (as tie-in novels can be seen as extension of it).

The onus is on the Publisher to have the conversation with Frontier to ensure their is a clear line of supply. So the ball is in Dan's court, but I think we can let him have a day or two's rest after the weekend.

It may be worth adding that the quality of the books themselves (i.e. paper, binding, covers, etc.) is very high - Mrs. K was suitably impressed! :p

Slightly OT Allen but is there any way you could ask around the authors in regard to the age level (as in 'age restriction' considerations) of your books? Janette will take it into account anyway as part of her review process, but it might be nice to know what you guys think. We've spoken to Kate and Drew already if that helps. (If this information is news to you, you might want to have a word with Dan...)

I'm sure they can reply for themselves here as all the short story writers and novelists have access to these forums.

Lave Revolution is a bit violent in places, the swearing is minimal, there are no sex scenes (sorry to disappoint ;)).
