Where is the paid 'content' LEP holder get for 'free'

My expectations haven't changed at all, I bought the game they actually made and have always regarded DLC as potential extra's and not a certainty. Which is why I never got an LEP.

What about all the players who bought the game based on the planned features that were described? Anyone who purchased an LEP has a very specific expectation to see those features developed because they have literally paid money for them already, as a "pre-order". Here's how the game's development plans were described on the LEP page:

[h=3]Elite: Dangerous is just the beginning[/h]If you backed Elite: Dangerous through Kickstarter or the Backers App make sure you check our FAQ page.
We intend to continue expanding the game both with new content and new features. A good example of this is planetary landings. We have an ambitious goal for landings to include new gameplay and a rich variety of worlds to explore. To achieve our goal we want the planets to come to life. We also want to add leaving the ships so you can explore space stations or board enemy vessels or even just to look around your own. We intend to release small, free updates after launch, but major expansions including rich new features will be charged for, unless you have bought the expansion pass

That thread is nonsense and that request was very appropriately rejected by support. I've seen support reimburse losses from game bugs and even some edge cases involving "exploits" on a regular basis, but asking support to reimburse you for losing your ship through legitimate gameplay is just silly.

I agree, but don't you think threads like that would exist if someone lost their ship to a boarding action? (I know you aren't suggesting that, but just imagine the backlash)

It was an idea, not well thought through ... the way the community has turned out there is no way that FD will allow someone to lose a ship by someone else taking it through ship boarding.

The amount of tickets sent to support would be overwhelming. Like I said NPC ships could have this happen. Therefore the "promise" isn't broken.

I wonder if you have any evidence of FD decision on this one.

How could that be any worse than the griefing and trolling we already have? The C&P "rework" has done absolutely nothing to address that situation. In fact it's made the situation even worse than it was before. Now you can go around in full murder hobo mode and then just change ships when you're finshed. It's like robbing a bank in a getaway car and then switching cars as if the police are somehow complete imbeciles and can't catch you just because you're driving a different car.

There's hyperbole for sure. People always complains when they lose stuff in game. So what? Didn't stop FD to do C&P update for 3.0.

Whilst I agree in a small way, That is exactly how bank robbers do that .. :)

If you were unable to steal someones ship, people would complain you can't do it. If you could do it, people would complain they got their anaconda stolen by "Griefers"

If you could only do it to NPCs, people would say that players and NPCs shuold be treated the same.

If you couldn't do it at all, DB "broke a promise"

Anyway...

Coming at this forum with fresh eyes, I see so much toxicity. More, more, faster, faster!

I understand the enthusiasm, especially if you prepaid for future content. However, I think what a lot of folks don't understand (and not to any persons fault) is what is truly involved.

Elite Dangerous is a self published, crowd funded title, currently in it's post release phase, being developed by a sub-set of a relatively small developer.

They don't have Sony or Microsoft throwing millions at them and saying, "Here, buy yourself 100 more programmers/artists. In the meantime we'll throw a few more million at the TV networks to put primetime ads on repeat so we can sell 5 million units."
They are nowhere near the size of Bungie, which STILL had the weight of Activision behind it in order to churn out Destiny and its DLCs.
And they certainly don't have the funding to keep pre-release level staff working on the game full time, 4 years after release.

My point is that this game IS going to take a long time to mature. That is a logistical fact. They're certainly not taking their time for fun. It would be uncouth for Frontier to point that out, so they just say there's a 10 year plan. Then they remain largely silent on forum and social media complaints because trying to explain all this would look like excuses and back peddling.

Those are just my thoughts on the matter.

On a lighter note; Look at Jurrasic World. Made in the same engine, a framework for volumetric lighting, water and terrain hydroerosion, large scale foliage instancing, fauna AI capable of evolution/mutation, reusable prop and audio assets. Sounds like strategic funding to me. Just sayin...

Far too sensible for this madhouse..

Yeah, but why is that black train looking on, doing nothing?

Incorrect. Everything we've had to date, with the addition of squadrons and not including mining, was originally scheduled to be completed by "early next year" after horizons was released in 2015. You're well aware of the original statements Babel, you commented on them at the time.

So there.

I have literally no idea what you are trying to say.

Edit

After rereading I believe you are talking about the delay of 2.3 and 2.4, which is almost completely unrelated to my comment.

Concept art from the period tells it's own story.

If you're going to publish stuff like that and then go with the whole "Ah, but we never said we were going to...." thing, you probably need to take some kind of business ethics class.

*EDIT*

Would somebody like to go through the details of that pic' and point out the stuff that is/isn't in the game, or should I do it? :p

Concept art is, well, just a concept... I think I'll take a crack at it anyway though.

1. Atmosphere.
2. Varied plant life.
3. Animal life.
4. A *SECOND* type of SRV!
5. Liquid 'water'(?).

You would think adding most of those things would be easy after making that Jurassic game... Do they not have enough funding dedicated to elite to 'copy, paste, fix here and there' already made content anymore?
