Ships Type 9 heavy bulk trading, is it really that bad?

T9 is a solid ship that really gives you a feel of being massive and slow. I strongly suspect people are comparing it to the Cutter, a MUCH more expensive ship with a huge rank grind. That being said, once you have the Cutter, there's not much reason to fly the Type 9 for heavy cargo runs since the capacity is comparable and the Cutter has a much bigger jump range and much faster thrusters.

There's also the Type 10 which I've turned into my dedicated miner. Although I'm still waiting on upcoming changes as I might need something more agile for deep core mining.

Well, aside from the Type 9's somewhat lower rebuy and generally more sedate speed relative to its handling. See a lot of folks not really respecting how fast and heavy the Cutter is and trying to boost directly at/into the station or just repeatedly boffo'ing their approaches in general. Not so much the Type 9.

Heh, I find the Type 9/10 much easier to maneuver with. When it comes to the Cutter, I let the docking computer do it's thing ;)

Same, like, they're just much more forgiving around the station. Their handling makes intuitive sense (big, heavy, slow) where the Cutter is big, heavy, and fast. I fly all my approaches with it under manual with usually 1 boost to around 480~ before decelerating and hooking into the slot at 160~ then 0 the throttle as I enter the slot in case the landing pad is close, if it's towards the back then you just put a little extra power on and cruise on to where you're gonna land. That is IF, and only if, there's no other players around. Heavy player traffic tends to make such an approach too risky unless someone's doing traffic control, not to mention the troll or three that might be lurking around.

Love my space cow

Only lost one interdiction and that didn't end well but apart from that it's made me a ton of money and I really like the way it flys - yes, it does take a while to get used to SC slowness and you do feel your going to hit every star for a while but it makes me smile to fly it.

Space trucking - whats not to like?

I went down a different design philosophy with my space cow; built for survivability in open.

Instead of long range fsd I went with fast reboot to help mitigate those Grom missiles.
I fitted 2 class 8 cargo racks and that's it. Still 512 tons which is still a lot.
The rest of the modules are a 6A shield and the rest are guardian shield boosters.
Here's a link to what in aiming at engineering wise (not quite there yet but close).https://s.orbis.zone/sE1Lqjoh

i actually ended buying an Orca for the time being, Ill get back in Haulage shortly but for now these VIP tourist missions are paying to much to ignore

I use my old Cutter for this: https://s.orbis.zone/MY4L85g7

Bit more expensive, but more survivability in my eyes...

I don't really have a problem with the budget for a t9 and the t7 doesn't seem like a large enough upgrade from my asp if I just fill it with cargo racks. I really want the space trucker feel of a heavy trader

A T7 can have triple the cargo capacity of the AspX. Just remember to A rate the power plant (even if it’s just a 3A) it’s prone to overheating. I really do love the T7, it’s also one of the games best bulk passenger ships (easily competes with the Orca/Beluga) so if you do get bored of cargo you can switch to passenger missions.

The T9 is awesome, I wouldn’t let the reviews put you off trying it.

I keep a trade-equipped T9 around the hangar. I find doing trade runs in solo mode very relaxing in the T9. It's also fun to stack up a bunch of source-and-return missions and track down all the cargo and bring it all in at once for a nice pay day.

I love my space-cow! I bought it expecting to hate it, almost bought for a goof or just curiosit - but it's fun to fly and can make good money various ways. That said, I like ETS2 so... space truckin' ahoy. I seriously do not want all sleek, fast, killer ships in my fleet.

Hey guys,

So im a new CMDR here in elite and ive been making the bulk of my cash with trading runs, Im very very curious about upgrading to a type 9 heavy and from googling around I see it has recently been buffed. Great news right? Heres the problem, every other thread ive seen or read is smashing the type 9 to hell and back. Almost every thread from another CMDR requesting a fitting etc seems to end with advice against buying the ship so start with. generally speaking there is little to no type 9 love on the internet as far as I can see. So my question is this...... is really that bad?

I have a Asp X right now I use for rares and passenger missions, I have a vulture for BH and massacre missions etc. The type 9 I want to be my bulk trade ship for evenings when Im lazy as hell and just want to bounce from station A back to B and make a tidy few cr on the way. So is there a way to make the Type 9 a viable bulk trader? What fittings do you guys recommend to assist me in escaping from pirates during interdiction.

Lets try and keep this thread away from "doom just buy a conda or type 10" and lets come up with some awesome fittings for the type 9.

P.s. ive been playing for about 2 and a half weeks, lots of stuff i dont know yet so please keep abbreviations to a minimum, many thanks in advance
To be honest, I think the folks who like the T9 aren't online talking about it because they're busy bulk trading. It's one of the two intended uses for this ship and the other is mining. While the T9 isn't very maneuverable between the rocks, you can spend hours in the ring laser mining painite. That's where the real money in mining is anyway (at least before the recent update...) I love the style of the T9 and how much cargo I can haul in one run. Finding a suitable rout on eddb is easy enough, you can even put your jump range into the search to find a single hop rout. Using the lower optional internals for some autodocking and supercruise assist makes the game something that can run almost in the background. Interdictions will still be a problem.
