The Star Citizen Thread v9

As always, I'll just sit on the sidelines and when Sq42 drops pick it up, and enjoy my OTT space opera populated by A/B/C/Below list hollywood talent

Based on the chaps I game with, I think there's a bigger demographic than you expect who have a similar ethos.

It's a pretty big assumption to say you'll "enjoy" it at this early (lol) stage. What if it's released and it's absolutely mauled by reviewers? Will you still pick it up? Will the rest of that demographic? There's a very real chance that the relatively large potential audience won't materialise if the game ends up being a load of old toss.

I'm also in it for Squadron 42, but even given my flat-lined expectations I was surprised how little they had to show at the much-hyped holiday (not-)livestream. They're coasting on fumes right now with SC, relying on the sophisticated emergent gameplay experience provided by disgruntled backers creating blockades in lieu of actual content, but even in a completely controlled demo they had nothing for the offline game other than what looked like a tedious walk-through of some assets ripped hastily out of SC.

There's still a chance that Roberts' "so bad it loops all the way past good and back to bad again" writing and direction might at least provide some car-crash entertainment value, but I wouldn't buy it for that alone if I hadn't already paid for it during the Kickstarter.

It's made by CIG. What more do you need to know.

Perhaps CIG actually modelled the expansive gas cone and imparted energy in otherwise vacuum?

Anyway - trying to watch the latest RTV in amongst other stuff and dinner - what on earth is going on? They are trying to create a 2d Disco Landrover as far as I can tell. It's always nice to see an artist work, it's something I could never do - and it's really quite relaxing to watch.

Stil no game though.

Small claims action failed. It's going to take proper arbitration, let's see if the bigger whales trying to get serious money out (right now) will get serious about it.

With all due respect and sympathy for the guy, but it still raises the question why did he "pledge" the amount he did to begin with?
Every sane person, not wearing rose tinted glasses, who did take a look at CR's past could see how this project would end.
Has anybody of those pledgers ever had the thought that the only reasons why didn't go for a publisher, is the fact that the publishers knew how it would end and didn't want to throw money at this failure of a has-been?
6 years, 185 million dollars and they got exactly what you'll get without project management and a micromanaging fool at the helm.

Sure, if you have just pledged something in the range of 45-200 $ it's easy to call it a loss and move on, I also can understand someone who is just in it for SQ42 with a few bucks and doesn't even care about the MMO.
But seriously, how can a "sane" person spend multiple hundreds or multiple thousands of Dollars for something even less than a pipe dream?
I see some good future material for the thesis of a psychologist here.

TBh, I'm just curious to see what they will delay from 3.3 into 3.4 and the mental gymnastics of the r/starcitizen crowd defending it.

Assuming "Rest Stop [small]" is based on a US rest stop, and has 3 landing pads, a toilet, and a sign saying "Welcome to Armpit Co, Hurston" I have have faith they can pull that off.

Everything else: Not so much.
