General / Off-Topic Elon Musk Vile Tweet

I don't see how "[my sub is fight and will go aaaaall the way! (paraphrased)] Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it." without any basis even in common prejudice or even from local context warrants as being in jest except maybe if you're talking to a 12 year old…

It seems like obvious jest to me, given that Musk isn't the one threatening legal action here.

Indeed.

You are confusing publicity and marketing. For publicity it doesn't matter. People just hear his name and go check.
Marketing is a completely different matter, of course. If he'd start saying Teslas are crap, then it could be a disaster, of course.

But he doesn't do that. He will always show his products in a good light. But he as a person likes to gain attention by controversy.

The Papa John's Pizza BoD would like a word with you.

Alright, now looking into it, I am siding with Musk 100%

Naturally he shouldn't have called Vernon Unsworth pedo. That was uncalled for, but he didn't do it in regards to the footballers, but in a sense "Why would a Brit be in Thailand, anyway". I think it was meant as a snarky remark, rather than an offense.
And everything he said is true. He nailed that argument. There are six brits listed in the rescue efforts and Vernon Unsworth isn't one of them.

Now that is interesting.

I think that's the problem, though. If this conversation took place in a pub over a beer, nobody would bat the eye. But once press smells blood in the water... Even the tiniest of "news" can be blown out as an international scandal.

In a pub over a beer, you say? I doubt anybody would bat an eye, more like punch one.
Whether this is a PR stunt or a reflection of his ego, this guy has gone down in my eyes.

Hes a man who has had some great ideas, and some very stupid ones.... The problem is, he cant take any criticism whatsoever and throws tantrums...

I have never liked him from the start.. His ego always outweighs anything positive that he does. But thats just my opinion.

So far only SpaceX, Paypal & Tesla have succeded. His other bussineses or projects are mostly stuck in CGI animations and very small prototypes.

My guess is that they were migrants there, I saw some canadians there while I went to Bangkok in my vacations so it's not that odd.

Yawn is my reaction to stuff like that.

I prefer to waste my time playing video games than reading exaggerated comment about meaningless social media banter from people with exaggerated egos ;)

This. Social media has become the opinion plague of the 21st century.

That's why I mostly use the forums as social media.

"Nice guy billionaire"

Anyone who takes that fantasy archetype seriously is a fool. No one with anywhere near that much money acquired it without victimizing a legion of people along the way, or inheriting it from someone else who did.

Sometimes, after they've had their fun and fame, they reinvest it in positive ways. Progress is still progress, and I can't say whether or not the ends justify the means, but in any case it doesn't undo what had to be done to get there.

And people want a "tribute" to this knucklehead in the game.

Plenty of in-game tributes to plenty of other equally flawed people (which is most of us).

I think that's the problem, though. If this conversation took place in a pub over a beer, nobody would bat the eye.

I wouldn't bat an eye, but I would mentally note the commenter as a presumptuous bigot, or at least someone who has too loose a tongue after a few drinks.

Of course, this wasn't in a pub, this was in text, immortalized for all to see, by someone who should know better.

Honestly I think they were both idiots.

The diver, there are many far more elegant ways to say "we don't need the minisub" than "shove it up the ". It was completely stupid. I know that nowadays its fashionable to speak ill of Elon Musk, but the fact is he put his companies assets at their disposal. They didn't just created a minisub in 8 hours, he also sent engineers from the boring company to assist with trying to find areas to dig a passage into the kids location, as well as offering the use of the Boring Company ground penetrating radar. In the end nothing ended up being needed, but nobody knew at the time. What if plan A failed, or conditions changed, the monsoon started before the rescue, the water pumps broken down earlier, etc, and made it impossible to follow plan A? Any help and coming forth with alternative solutions deserves praise, not disdain.

As for Elon Musk's reply, he completely lost the plot there. Very distasteful reply, no matter how much a the other guy was. He should have just ignored it and moved on, after all in a week nobody will remember it anyway.

Yep. Diver's slight was uncalled for. Musk's response was ridiculous. The dude wants to be Tony Stark, maybe he should fund some development into replicating the Iron Man's charm and less on his tech. Everyone seems to take everything personally now. Brake a little to hard on the road and someone's coming for you with a pipe wrench. There's something about egocentrism that could be said but I'm not smart enough to write that paper.
