Pirate Hunting Missions... where are the pirates?

Heya Commanders,

after quite some trading I decided to switch over to a ship that packs some punch and do combat (vs NPC for the moment, still a newbie to space sims).

I searched the forum without finding the right answers (forgive me if I've overseen some threads answering this), so here we go:

There's quite often missions on the bulletin board that send you out to hunt down pirate ships. First question is: are those the guys with a wanted status? And: where do I find them?

On my last try, the mission sent me to Morgor, LP 98-132 and CM Draco. I was lurking around the stations, tried my luck at Nav Beacons and even travelled near planets... only one ship with a wanted status.

Am I doing something wrong or was it just a bad day? Or are these missions mostly for open for all play?

Thanks for any advice or help :)

If you're taking missions pirate hunting in anarchy systems, make sure you take a Kill Warrant scanner with you, and scan everything that moves at the nav beacons. Because anarchies have no effective law enforcement, everyone shows up with no record despite being naughty until you KW scan them.

Short answer: the missions are broken, it's almost impossible to find them.
No hints on location, no idea where to look in the vast wide universe.
I think _one_ person on the forums has ever gotten lucky and found the named pirate in a random encounter (interdiction).

It's broken, hope it gets fixed in the next build.

Thingie was on board, used it on most of the ships tresspassing the station letterbox... nothing.

Felt like all of the three systems had their anti-criminal day -.-

I see, that makes sense. Well, lets wait for the next patch then :) Thanks for the infos!

True for the Hunt Pirate Lord mission, never had any joy with that. But I've completed a few of the blow up x number of pirates at various systems ones.

If you refer to hunt down the pirate lord mission, it's basically a mad hunt for every USS you see until the time runs out or you happen to find him/her. I dropped in a USS once and it was an Anaconda talking a whole bunch of noise about me and my ship, basically it was the pirate lord, but the encounter was totally random. As far as the other pirates you just try and shoot it out with as many wanted npcs until you are told that you've accomlished your mission.
