A ton of gold is a ton of gold.
I have a mission for a mining rush of x amount of gold.
Question:
Does it HAVE to be mined or will the mission giver accept it if I purchased it from some station?
The consensus seems to be "If it says 'mined' then it's got to be mined." I'll accept that as the answer. Thanks.
Damned guys probably got spies everywhere. "No, you can't hand us 80 tons of gold. Not THAT gold. It's got to be MINED gold. Our 'sources' told us you just went off and bought it somewhere. That means it's got someone's damned fingerprints on it. Sorry but the guy we're getting this for only wants pure, untouched by anyone's fingers gold."

I accepted a mission by mistake asking for gold to be mined. As it happened I had enough in hold anyway. I was able to complete mission no problem.
Obviously buying gold vs mining reduces mission profits although offset by time saved etc etc.

To be fair it is easy explained with gameplay mechanics, as all goods are digitally fingerprinted and bought metal is easy to differentiate between gold stored from mining.
So let me get this right - you're gonna take the work of a bunch of randos who don't seem very sure, and base your game play on that - rather than just buy 1T gold, take 1 mining mission, and try and hand that 1T of gold in? Words fail...
And, at your keyboard-prod, I decided to go ahead and give it a try.
I guess things changed in the last update. You CAN accept a "mine gold" mission, buy gold and hand it in. Profit.
I owe you a beer. [yesnod]
You can even link it to the real world. Gold bars get stamps from the mints in which they have been molten. In our case, our refinery would stamp our logo into the gold bars. If you buy them, they will obviously have different stamps. To be fair it is easy explained with gameplay mechanics, as all goods are digitally fingerprinted and bought metal is easy to differentiate between gold stored from mining.
