General / Off-Topic What No Mans Sky Does RIGHT that FD could learn from.

Heres what i think.

NMS was a game that made a lot of money. But it feels like they didnt take the money and run. They stuck around and poured their heat and sole into it to make it better. And it is better.

ED was a brilliant game thamade a lot of money. But it feels like they did take the money and run. They didnt relaly stick around and they didntpour their heart andsole into making it better and its the same game it was 3 years ago.

Am i completely wrong?

Honestly?

I don't think they've taken the money and ran.
They said they are still working on it on a big scale. I'll take their word for it.
I do think the development after Horizon has been slow yes, but I suspect they are working on something big behind the scenes.
*crosses fingers*

Planets with atmosphere, fauna and flora, of course - We will go from the obscurity to the light

This is open to debate. Season 1 basically 1.1 to 1.5 should have been developing the core gameplay and maybe release powerplay last with much better core game it could have been much better. With Horizons yeah planetary landing were great. But what they did is develop the wrong stuff with horizons, like multicrew, SLF and passanger missions (I like these but it was the wrong time), engineers are debatable. What they should have done during horizons was concentrate on the planetary surfaces and what can be done down there.

I don't think their hearts weren't in it, I think they just developed the wrong stuff, or the right stuff at completely the wrong time. You could see from Sandro on some of the live streams that he was knackered and had put a lot of effort in. Fortunatly they have realised their mistake and this year are trying to put thing right. 3.1 with the much better trade tools, in my view much better engineers and a C&P system that still needs work, but it better then what we had, which was a C&P system that did nothing. Q4 we will be getting much better mining and exploration. A guild system with fleet carriers (guild home), better ice planets (they looked superb from what I have seen) with better and more intersting rock system, a massive lighting update (which will tie into atmospheric planets).

Are you wrong, honestly, I think so, but not that wrong if you understand what I mean. Of course FDev put money into developing other games, it's a good idea, but they also invested in ED at the same time. It's not like there were no updates coming out. They were just that some of them were the wrong ones which was frustrating.

"

Classic response when loosing an arguement in the face of solid facts: "I dont understand. your not making sense."

You said "So your opinions are facts and mine ars are just opinions?". My response makes perfect sense if you actually read it.

That said: The brilliant thing is it doesnt matter if you "get it" or not.
It doesnt change the truth.

So..later . I guess.

How is it a classic response for loosing an arguement. I wasn't trying to argue with anyone. And what you said with what I was saying made litereally no sense what so ever.

I am still confused about what you are saying. I think you have completely misunderstood what I was saying and that is where the confusion lies.

Man saying the reason we are argueing is because im confused it the most passive agressive stance you culd take and its not helping.
Im not confused. Im trying to explain the difference between facts and opinions and clearly, CLEARLY you are the one thats confused. Maybe not in general, but defintaley in relation to me. You are the one who admits youve no idea what im saying and IM CONFUSED?

Jesus.
Man, lets just drop it. Who cares.

Lets just kiss and make up and agree to disagree.

Agreed.

If FD and no mans sky swapped dev studios for 2 years NMS would be full of green rocks with rank requirements to mine and ED would be full of Thargoids with < no, really, this could never be >.

It's too early to say whether or not HG are taking the money and running. The XBox release was a massive monetary incentive to keep working on the game, and would most likely have flopped hard without the improvements that have been made. Now that it's been released for all 3 major platforms, we'll see what happens.

I don't feel FD have run off with the money either, they're still working hard on the game. Sure it can be disheartening when updates slow down, but until we see the results of their efforts we won't be able to tell whether or not it was worth it. Complex atmospheric planets will obviously take a lot of time. If they did what HG did and copy/paste 5-10 species of randomly generated fauna across an entire planet with no consideration for the type of planet they're on, you know this community will absolutely crucify them.

Personally I'm super excited for the new ice planets in ED, the new ground effect looks insanely good, and if that's any indication of things to come with ED's planets, I'm more than happy to wait.

Now I am even more confused. Not being passive aggressive in any way what so ever. I know the difference between opinion and fact. What I am confused about is what you thought what I said was opinion and what was fact.

I may not even disagree with you if I understood what you were talking about.

No need to kiss and make up as I didn't think we had fallen out.

Could be true.

Time to move on dude.

If I was Fdev I would be humiliated by NMS dev teams progression since launch.

Way too many half ideas roam around Fdev and even worse they get implemented, only to be rehashed time and time again.

1) Warp Gates. Come on FD. Just one even between colonia and the bubble. Not everyone has 21 hours to spare. Make it a CG to build it. It would feel like an actually important CG for once.
2) Exotic Rare Ships. We all want to be unique. Not differnt shades of the same colour.
3) Base construction. (they did in 2 years what you guys have been avoiding for 3.)
4) Athmosphere. Even barren atmospheric worlds. Just throw in a few clouds and change the sky box. easy. Ill do it. Hire me.
5)Caves. Propper, massive caves. We have the barren landscapes with no athmophere..why not add caves next? How hard exactly would it be to add?

When i look at everything no mans sky added in 2 years, and compare it to what we hav got in the last two years in Elite i cant help but feel bad.
And everyone HATED no mans sky. And they are a FRACTION of the size you guys are.

So....

What are you guys doing? Exactly?

Thanks.

1. No thanks. Using the old "not everyone have time to fly there" doesnt just work, you can fly an hour per day if you want.
2. Not sure why, your ship is unique with ship kit.
3. Sure, why not but it has to be proper means to it, not a base building just for the sake of base building.
4. They are coming eventually.
5. Yes, i would like those.

And now that i have responded my opinions, i have to say i dont understand the comparison between Elite and NMS. Two completely different games. Both has space ships and space, thats where the similatiries end.
Compare NMS to Empyrion and maybe Osiris, then youre good to go.

Every single of your ideas would be welcome addition to Elite in my eyes, (I might just swap warping for simple hyper jump autopilot) but slim chances that we get anything even close to them. We are like 4 years in to development and FD just started "core updates and fixes". No disrespect to FD of curse, they simply have different vision for what ED can be at the moment and from what I understand limited time/resources for it.
From your list I can see only barren atmospheric worlds being developed as we speak for ED, rest we will need to just get in other game.
btw, I`m a big fan of idea of base building since there is literally nothing to do on those huge barren planets outside of bubble at the moments, only screenshots and SRV racing (fun as it its its just too little).
