Black Bond. About time to break the stereotype on this kind of character.
I approve.
But the stereotype *is* the character. I therefore disagree...
In the novels, James Bond was expelled from a posh school for being naughty.
James Bond the character is the way he is because of a specific turn of events. He didn't begin as a womaniser. He met someone, fell in love and got married quickly, but then Mrs Bond got shot dead shortly after the wedding on the way to their honey-moon. James Bond as a character developed largely from that single event. He can't be close to anyone because that would bring them directly into harm's way. This is James Bond. Sure, it isn't something which fits with the modern liberal ideology, but it's that way for a very good reason, regardless of whether it is compatible with contemporary societal views or not.
It would be better, in my view, to make a new character that could be played by any ethnicity or sex of actor. This new character could even be a double-O agent and have supporting cast, ideas and story-lines directly from the bond films, be a British agent, reporting to M and supported by Q division, etc, etc... Just don't call them James Bond. That's a bit rubbish.
