GALNET Article: "Billionaire Wins Lottery" a fluff article on top of fluff article

First, a fluff article about a missing lottery ticket, now another fluff article about a "suspicious" billionaire winner of the lottery. Can nobody think of anything substantially gameplay related to write about?

Do you complain about the fact that you don't get to see the "Five Years War" referenced in the Elder Scrolls book "Mixed Unit Tactics"?

If the concept of lore that doesn't actually result in gameplay scares you, please, for the love of heck, don't read books in RPGs.

What if this suspicious person kidnaps The Princess right before her wedding and she falls for him? Oh no, he is secretly an Alliance man. And then we have a big bad war for no reason and cripple two superpowers in the ensuing chaos?

...not likely at all, but discount nothing. You never know when the next crazy small thing will cause humans to be themselves.

its flavor text for the game. Frankly would you rather galnet report nothing other than thargoid story? I mean seriously. Theres hundreds of billions of people in the ed universe. The fact that the Galnet is not a 24/7 rolling newspaper is suprising. I like the new changes and stories that we're seeing in galnet these days. It's expanded the lore/universe/emersion whatever is your cup of tea. If you don't like it, read on. But it'd be a lot more dead space if it wasn't there. How often are we concerned about *every* article or piece of news these days? why is 3304 any different.

Only because that was the setting for "The Lusty Argonian Maid."

;)

I wouldnt mind seeing articles from local news in stations being randomly picked to go up on galnet.

"Faction X in sytem Y announce that they have fallen into Z state, also ask galactic community for help"

Stories are already there in the local news and seeing something like that may make me want to go help said faction.

I like Galnet, but i definitely feel its under utilised.

Call me crazy, but I want Galnet articles to be relevant to the game. They should be pointers to content or events that you can observe or participate in. These kind of rubbish articles are a waste of everyone's time. Frankly it would be no great loss if Galnet was just shut down. It's awful.

Lots of people can, unfortunately Fdev stopped them (us) submitting Galnet articles for inclusion into their game.

1) Why complain about fluff Galnet News as you can happily ignore it and let those that enjoy the background read them

2) This is a continuation to the Colonia Shipyards, as the person who funded the Shipyards in Colonia is this same billionaire.
That certainly effected the gameplay of people in Colonia or is that not you and thus not relevant either?

3) Why claim it was the content of the player submitted Galnet articles that stopped them hinting a conspiracy rather than it was the administration and translation that was the issue

That would have been the perfect opportunity to really add a lottery ticket into a unique USS and gift a player a billion.

It would've been awesome imho.
Whilst it would have it would have generated many more complaints by those who didn't get it calling it wrong, bias, rigged and a waste of time

This was roughly how it worked pre-2.4 - CG announcements, news about BGS states for random factions, UA bombing updates, absolutely nothing that wasn't immediately actionable.

In the 2.3 style, the recent League of Reparation storyline would have played out as follows:
1) Article in Galnet 18 July announcing War CGs against "The League of Reparation, a terrorist group murdering the descendants of INRA members"
2) Article in Galnet 25 July announcing victory and the ability to collect rewards from stations

Adding some context around in-game events - some lead-up to them, some follow-up from them - makes them feel more important than just "oh, it's this week's CG"

Lot of Galnet articles are laying groundwork for CGs or bigger moves in ED lore. And I personally don't mind fun fluff articles. It is all extendable of course. There might be a day where article talks about scenario which plays within game and you can 'feel' fallout / consequences more concretely. For that FD needs to improve story telling tools. They will come eventually.
