it went as follows...

Title: The Future is Now (well soon actually).

To Dr Neil DeGrasse Tyson

Hi

I've been led to believe that you like science fiction & I heard it on the grapevine that you're kind of into astronomy/cosmology, well I have two words for you:

ELITE DANGEROUS

But hey, don't take my word for it, check out the below link, I suggest watching the whole thing...

Cheers, signing out,

Probably won't hear anything back & he may not even get the email, but what the hell, I thought I'd give it a stab. :)

When he admits Pluto is indeed a planet and it is again listed as such, I will agree to like him again. Otherwise he is a bully and nothing good will ever come from him.

So say we all...

Well, that's insteresting, I don't think he's much of a gamer though, and Space Engine might probably be more his thing.

It is a planet. A dwarf one. :)

I don't like that decision either, it should have been a special case exception. But I'm not too hung up around it, because if you allowed any body that can form a sphere with gravity, then we have a lot of planets out there still.

I initially thought likewise, but with ED having the scope & accuracy that it has, I thought it might just appeal to him, a shot in the dark I guess, but hey, you never know. :)

The explorer part of it maybe. And the point that FD is trying to make it as accurate as possible, within gameplay limits. Doesn't hurt to just ask him to take a look anyway.

I haven't heard of the guy so, taking it with a pinch of salt, I read his Wikipedia entry.

The best bit I read was:

In Action Comics #14 (January 2013), which was published November 7, 2012, Tyson appears in the story, in which he determines that Superman's home planet, Krypton, orbited the red dwarf LHS 2520 in the constellation Corvus 27.1 lightyears from Earth. Tyson assisted DC Comics in selecting a real-life star that would be an appropriate parent star to Krypton, and picked Corvus, which is Latin for "Crow", and which is the mascot of Superman's high school, the Smallville Crows.

So, FD, does LHS 2520 have a planet called Krypton around it?

Wrt to Pluto I don't think they should have compromised on "dwarf planet" - that's a sop to the "it's a planet" lobby.

Imo it's not a planet at all and never has been. It's an asteroid from the Kuiper Belt that got misclassified as one in the first place and too many people don't want to admit that they originally got it wrong.

Sure it's round and planets are round, but so are ball bearings but you wouldn't call them planets.

Maybe but remember scientists real or otherise have a hard time associating themselves with anything commercial and or deemed to be or better potentially perceived as being pseudoscience for fear of losing their "status" in the scientific community.
