Are Guardians Good or Bad?

Looking at the latest trailer for the release of 3.2, most knowledgeable Cmdrs seem to think it is the introduction of the Guardians into the game.

So my questions is, Are they gonna be like the Goids, (Twitter and Bisted [down]) ? or are they friendly to us Humans [up] ?

Thanx

Guardians were enemy to the Thargoids. Enemy of my enemy and that stuff.

It may not have been the introduction of live guardians. It may be the image of the rumoured Guardian Hybrid ship that we may be able to fly. Which is what the Guardian ship blueprints would be for.

First, I think Guardians are dead, only their AI tech is laying around. Second, they are neither good or bad, they are either means to the end, or we are their means to the end of their goals. This is not Hollywood movie, it is a bit more complex than that.

If its only Guardian AI it will be hostile to us. Remember that this AI killed all Guardians couse they were destructive and they couldn't change. Same as humans.

Interestingly enough, the military part of the AIs disagreed with the genocide but were overturned by the civilian group which then defined the consensus. Makes me believe the Thargoids somehow got to them.

One way Guardians could be in is a hyper intelligent AI, seeing as this would be machine based it may see Humanity as a parasite inhabiting the bowels of these mechanical beings moving through the galaxy. Also seeing as Thargoids are organic the organic parasite needs to be removed.

Taking into consideration how everything in ED pans out it will be a Threat level 4 USS which we can all fly past not know what is in there as we don't know unless we stop and scan it.

As Pecisk stated, Guardians are neither "good" nor "bad". They're a race of beings who once existed, long ages ago, but have now gone, the remnants of them present only in terms of their technology (as far as our current knowledge goes of them).

Guardian tech. is simply present and some of it still operational. When we are attacked by Guardian Sentinels - that doesn't necessarily mean Guardians are 'bad' - simply that the Guardian sentinels were programmed to 'protect the Guardian base', and they are shooting at us humans because to these Sentinels, we are a threat to the base. We are, in fact, an intruder - we are the ones who, to the sentinels at least, are the 'bad' ones - after all we are the ones flying in, and shooting at Guardian stuff and looting it and stealing data etc. ;)

OR this "inbetween hammer and anvil" stuff could happen.
It didn't go well for 3rd world countries in the past, when the superpowers decided to fight their proxy wars in them ...

This entire story line begins to remind me of Babylon 5. Thargoids vs Guardians. Vorlons vs Shadows. Maybe we have to look for other First Ones as allies.

To answer their question. They are neither, neither are they. They are different.

Indeed.

I just finished re-reading the entire Star Carrier series by Ian Douglas. Lots of parallels between that series and the ED universe, in that they have FTL technology (which is less convenient than ED's), and they are trying to figure out why alien races are attacking humans/Earth.

The books make a good point that humans - and even different races of aliens - find figuring out alien motives and thinking to be mostly impossible - because they are simply so alien.

Thargoids, for example, might not even understand what a human ship is, or what humans are - we might simply just be 'another potential resource' or 'another threat to their safety'. We humans can't understand what or who the Thargoids are, or what their motivations and thinking are because we think in human terms, not in Thargoid terms.

A similar thing for Guardians - a seemingly extinct race of beings, the only remnants being their technology. So far.

The trailer could be showing the Constructs in some form (the AI that the Guardians created - ships or space stations, etc.), or as some others pointed out, potentially some kind of hybrid ship we can get our hands on.

Highly doubtful that significant of an update is in 3.2. It's supposed to be a "small" update. Biggest thing in this update is most likely just the 2 new ships "Alliance Crusader" and the "Krait Phantom" that appeared briefly on the Frontier store.

As others have said, not the Guardians themselves as they're extinct.

Definitely looks like Guardian tech though, so likely either Guardian technology from the time they were around (2 Myrs ago), or tech of Guardian descendants (AI, biological descendants or hybrids).

In terms of friendliness, difficult to tell.

We've been pillaging Guardian sites, which might not go down well. - how badly that will have gone down will depend heavily on the nature of whatever we encounter, and whether they still carry any views of any of the old factions within Guardian society.

We're in an odd situation with the Thargoids. - there's no telling how they'll see it, and also no telling where things are between them and the Thargoids given the 2 Myrs since the Guardian - Thargoid conflict.

Etc. etc.

Basically, that's a long winded way of saying there's no telling at this stage and we'll just have to wait and find out! ;)

(Oh, and what makes you say the Thargoids are bitter and twisted?)
