The new RTX 20 series has been announced, and so have the prices!!! REALLY nVidia?

Will it run the Pimax 8K?

I have no spare Kidneys to sell, having sold one to finance the £790 1080Ti, so perhaps i can sell a bit of my Liver and Soul to nVidia for one of these 20xx series?

These prices are for the Founders, so what an earth will the prices be when the others get a chance to make and flog us one £1200?, £1300? or even £1500 for a GPU???? REALLY??

I figure they saw what people were willing to pay at the height of the mining craze and figured, hell, why not.

I await some real world (not rtx) performance figures before I commit to upgrading.

Consumers are kinda to blame though, because some people will buy things no matter what price it is, despite it being way overpriced, hence making companies think (quite rightly) that they will still be able to sell massively overpriced hardware

as the article says, we will need to wait for serious benchmarks. it's a different architecture so just comparing isolated spec parameters is not much use. much of the potential is for ray tracing (which still has to take off) but some new components, the extra cores, the new integer math, the new cache strategy, more memory bandwith, the tensor thing or all of it combined could have a major impact in performance of current games. wait & see.

There are plenty of Commanders with more money than sense, who always have to have the latest tech.

PRAISE JEBUS!

Hopefully it means that there will be a glut of cheap(er) used 9xx & 10xx cards appearing on fleabay, where those of us on a very tight budget can maybe afford to upgrade by chrimbo.

(I'm on a used 970 atm, works 'well enough' with VR (which I was 'gifted') & perfectly well on flatscreen.)

We don't really know how similar Turing is to Pascal, it could literally just be Pascal+RT cores, in which case, for non-RTX workloads, it would/should perform identically to Pascal clock for clock.

Now these are some big assumptions, but if Turing is just Pascal+RTX,and it can clock to roughly the same as a Pascal card (~2050MHz), then:

2080ti at max boost =17.8tflops
1080ti at max boost =14.6tflops

2080 at max boost =12tflops
1080 at max boost =10.5tflops

2070 at max boost =9.4tflops
1070 at max boost =7.9tflops

There doesn't seem to be that much of a generational leap. And thats assuming the new 20 series cards can match Pascal for clockspeeds.

It has the GPU miners creaming themselves, as it is 'Reported' to double the hash rate of a 1080Ti even, but with Crypto coins bouncing of the bottom of their worth graphs, the cost could well exclude them from mass buying these cards.

The nasty sniddy bit of me is saying that Nvidia priced these cards as they have, so the Miners buy them all and to hell with the gamers!!

The prices are horrific. I was planning on getting one but won’t go near it unless in normal benchmarks the Ti is double the performance (which is doubtful).

so is the scuttlebutt then that the 1080ti is still going to be the better card for anything other than RT stuff over the vanilla 2080? i thought the 2080 was meant to be a few % faster than the 1080ti?

i have a 1080ti in my cart for £630 and looking for reasons to cancel it.... (in death is getting a day 1 Raytracing DLC to support the new tech. there is 1 reason

i cant bring myself to spend over 1K tho which limits me to the 2080

I'm in the same boat, I'd like to upgrade my current 1080ti, but simply won't spend over £1k, so I'd be looking at the 2080. We all really need to see some benchmarks!

Yup same here - those prices are insane! To even consider upgrading the performance benchmarks would have to be staggering!
