Community Event / Creation ***Attention Explorers*** GNOSIS Jumps planned THROUGH a permit Lock !

Not happy about this.

I still feel that the entire thing about the Gnosis is a bad idea, because it shows a lot of favoritism and is unfair towards the other explorers like myself.

Everyone is free to dock at the Gnosis and hitch a ride. Including you. So no, it's not unfair.

Since the current area of the Gnosis is pretty much explored (although going straight up with my Asp Explorer the last few days was fun and i came across some undiscovered systems using jump drive synthesis), plus the fact i decided to finally do some exploring with a Corvette for this expedition!, i took the opportunity to visit a secluded asteroid mining base, relatively close by (297lys away). Hind Mine at the T Tauri system. Fun system, has a has res and is close to nebulas, so the view is pretty surreal (and i haven't even moved away from the star yet!). Exploring plus bounty hunting in one package :)

Gorgeous pics Shir!

A quick question: is the outfitting shop on the Gnosis a standard one? I'm planning on parking there with a max-jump exploration outfit, but i also want to summon all other potentially useful modules (hangars, cargo, mining, combat, AX) just in case. It will be possible, right?

Bonus question: is there an add-on somewhere that lets one visualize the locked regions in the galaxy map? I'd like to take in the geometry of the region (afaik there's no "permit" option in the filters, but i may have missed it).

The posibility of a large ship like the Gnosis miss jumping and landing in col 70 some where could be a neat catalyst to bringing down permit requirements. It is probably unlikely, but just a random throught. Is the note about the gnosis noy being a passanher ship normally there?

It WOULD be an interesting turn of developments however if the stars all around the ship require an unknown permit and we can't get it we'd all be stuck in that one system we accidently ended up in for four weeks. Someone would have to come up with something REALLY exciting for us to do during that four-week period or there would be much salt on the forums (and for four weeks, too).

Then again, wouldn't it be interesting if the planet in the "locked" star system was a Thargoid base and required LOTS of examinations and exploring?

Well, one can dream, anyway.

Changed again the FdL for my trusty old fully armed trading Anaconda. Including Guardian rail guns, por si las moscas...

A lot of combat ships in this journey. If FDev doesn't drop a few targets to blow up for Gnosis passengers, it'd be a bit dissapointing.

+1. Also, as in the systems targeted by the Thargoids, having to shoot down enough enemy vessels to prevent Gnosis being damaged. Or as in the Jaques' jump to Beagle Point, bring mined hydrogen to the megaship for refueling her.

Worth reinterating then that apart from being in an inaccesible place there's no expectation that the cone is any different from the rest of the galaxy not in an inaccesible place. As far as I know too this is a Canonn initiative only, FDev certainly haven't promised there's anything to find and really, the only unusual thing about the mission at this point,# is that you'll be 100% relying on the mothership to get you out again. That's quite submariner but - apart from Cmdr rOmiLaYu's rumoured asteroid base - is also about it.

I had the same line of thought as others here, that the coincidence with Chapter 3 is, well, maybe not a coincidence (if FDev allocated the date that is). However, I'm also acutely aware that we've been here before and expectation/hype often goes beyond what the game delivers. Still... I hope to get in on the act for any potential meta-gaming that may come from it, e.g. stranded in the deep, dark black with no way home. I'd happily sacrifice my PS4 Cmdr for that outcome. :D

I'm sure ship destruction is a "way home"! I may have as many as three commanders on board. Not sure yet.

Indeed, that would be the last resort (would we reincarnate on the Gnosis in that case?). My hope though is that being stranded out there, along with others, provides some new player-generated game experiences. :)

You can choose to start in a free sidewinder, instead of rebuying your ship after face planting a star.

Although - IF it did end up something I wanted to do - might also consider gaining a bounty, for 'exploring' the detention centre. (Anyone know how that goes? I've got no idea at all).

That has been suggested as a way to get back with your ship intact, really want to confirm how / if it works before the locked region ;)

I'm not sure if it works if you accidentally get left behind though .. it might be impossible to find a bounty to get wanted for, in basically empty and then after that lawless, space. Talk about ending up as a rebel without a cause!

I was thinking more about a few consentual but still naughty shield impacts - all in the name of non-lethal weapons testing - in the Gnosis no fire zone. It's better to burn out? Than to fade away ...

Good outfitting on the Gnosis, but no AX weapons. Bring your own
