It was said at last year's "road map" reveal that the bulk of the team would be working on Q4, implying the other updates had less dev effort applied to them.

That's actually okay because that's what they said right off the bat.
Problem is what they've put focus on and that isn't any work on core game mechanics, QOL or at least take an opportunity to rework the botched 3.0 C&P for example.
That's what Beyond was supposed to be primarily about.

Effectively 1 full year just to merely add better Trade Data (a tad bugged but good), a new C&P (borked but at least it's new), tweaked Planetary Visuals & Lighting and an Exploration/Mining mechanics update (Q4).
I don't even have to comment that.

Yeah fine for them. So long as they don't offer anything that isn't already available IN the bubble.

Actually I hope they do, but maybe make them explorer tools.

Like it or not long distance travel is a core part of ED. Given that, it would seem fine to put some unique items behind an actual long distance journey.

It does make sense that folk (engineers) based at Colonia would be on the cutting edge of innovating exploration.

Gnosis could eventually do a tour even if need be.

Who will pilot Guardians SLFs? Hired AIs? :p

Nice update, looking forward for decoding beacon logs to find out where Guardians went (or come from).

Concentrating on weaponry for smaller updates is all cool, because they require relatively less work. That's why all big gameplay changes outside pew pew are in Q4.

Am I the only one feeling ED has a huge pile of ships + huge pile of weapons already?

There's nothing wrong with more ships. :) The only problem is that added ships are most of the time the same kind of ships. And in the end, unless your favorite gameplay matches that kind of ships, you realize there aren't that many ships after all.

Yes, that would be very cool if you had to go there to engineer explorer specific tools - maybe the complete engineering of the tool there or just to get the G5 upgrade. I hope you read this FD if it’s not your plan already.

I couldn't quite hear the audio so don't want to say for sure, but Adam seemed to suggest that players could work together to unlock engineers rather than doing it individually.

Or even better, set up an Engineer Base at Beagle Point & have Explorers trouping out there for their 'Explorer Specific Tools'................................NOT!!

Still: NO.
I made the trip out to Colonia once. It was a thoroughly loathsome time Jump, Honk, Jump.
I wanted to see what all the fuss was about but mostly I wanted to unlock Palin.
If the Colonia Engineers are pretty much sub-contractors for the main engineers fine.
Anything else and we'd have ourselves a raging dumpster fire.
