Gamescom 2018

Not necessarily different yields, but larger lasers could make the fragments drop faster, at the cost of more power / distributor drain. Even some potential recipes, like larger distance, or lower dist drain, it's not anything that wasn't already done tons of times for other weapons.

I still think it's a different code area, and they have slated a whole mining redo for Q4.

If we're getting lots of weapons it's because imo, they're working on .. weapons. Meaning I don't think it's about favouritism a lot of this. There's surely got to be a work schedule FDev follow, to get them from one thing to the next, covering as much ground as possible but without getting lost, as a team the whole time?

I'm also curious about the new engineers in Colonia. Will they mirror existing upgrades that are available in the Bubble, or will they offer entirely new upgrades that could be worth travelling from Sol to Colonia for?
Oh good lord I hope they just mirror the current ones! There is no way I'm going out there again. With my fleet. One by one. Ain't nobody got money for those transfers!

Yay, finally all the small Core Game and QOL Updates that couldn't make it into V3.1.

*oh wait*

Anyway, as expected. 1 more Store item carrier aka Ship (reskinned Chieftain, now with SLF), more Weapons and more PewPew focus. Space Invaders 3D(tm). Same old.
Exactly what we've been missing all the time. I truly wonder how we made it this far without another Combat Ship and 10+ more Weapons.
More stuff to grind for, more stuff to Engineer. Same old.

All brought to you by "100 members of the team" who were tirelessly working on ELITE.

So... another V3 Beyond promise broken, another 3 months wasted & down the drain with nothing really moving forward. Just the same old, again and again - and most importantly pretty much as expected by now *yawn*

It was said at last year's "road map" reveal that the bulk of the team would be working on Q4, implying the other updates had less dev effort applied to them.

LOL, just spent 5 minutes looking for this thread on the main page, never thought to look in the Sticky section

Oh god I hope this coffee kicks in soon ….

Depends on what is offered, of course. I suppose I could fly my Exploraconda to Colonia via the Neutron Star network, and having earlier removed the suitable modules (if applicable) from the other ships that need upgrading so the modules could be shipped over at a high cost.

We'll see what the engineers in Colonia can offer.

I have the sneaky suspicion a lot of Commanders think the thread has been deleted because traffic on it has certainly dropped off since the move to Sticky Section!

Nah. They just can't think of anything miserable to say, yet again, we know or about Q4. Give it time though. [alien]

Just watched the video Speccy put up on page 15, thanks man!.

I wasn't expecting much versatility in 3.2, lots of pew pew again (how surprising) and another Chieftain variant......okay?
The Guardian SLFs look nice but I just hope they're not locked behind another grindwall just like the other Guardian stuff.
3.2 is the lead up towards the Q4 update, I definitely hope it doesn't set the tone for Q4 though.
In this short video I didn't see any core gameplay being addressed, there's mostly new toys again, wasn't the Beyond series there to address the core gameplay?
3.0 improved the engineers imho but that's about it regarding improving the core gameplay, 3.1 and 3.2 are mainly new toys.

For me personally Q4 needs to be realy good in order to compensate for what's been delivered during the Beyond series in regard to core gameplay.

Let's just hope they fix a lot of long standing bugs on the 28th.

It was expected that there would be another Chieftain variant. The Federation and Empire both have four faction ships apiece (not including fighters and capital ships), and three of the Federal ships are Dropship variants. Now that three of the Alliance's faction ships are done, the fourth and final Alliance ship (presumably coming in Q4) should be a large-pad ship that will directly compete with the Federal Corvette and Imperial Cutter.

I think the T10 already fills that role for them.

Honestly I'm not impressed. So much hype for the THIRD visually similar/identical version of the chieftain, with a fighter bay (does that mean it comes bolted on? Or just that "it can equip one?" Because if it's the latter I REALLY don't see the blasted point) rather than an actual new ship and the rest was mostly glossed over. So we're getting fighters with detached "hover parts." Ooookay then. I don't really see this making people want to back the Alliance...I mean sure, if you love SLF's you're excited, but if not, then...

New guardian stuff and abandoned settlements (aka material farms) to "discover" (aka wait for someone to post them on youtube and just grab the coords) and bigger versions of missiles and torps (which, to be fair, ARE something lots of us have been wanting for awhile now.) A few new tech broker weapons, okay whatever.

And...Seriously? More engineers? Out in COLONIA? I don't understand why they think this will be a popular idea...

I dunno; I'm just lost as to why we should be excited for this. I WANT to be excited, I really do, but...really? This? I'm just not feelin' it. I know how cynical I sound, but I just honestly don't see the hype.

This was only ever meant to be a minor update. They said very clearly that the second and third updates of Beyond will be relatively small. Any hype about this update, or indeed about what they would or wouldn't announce at Gamescon, did not come from Frontier. In short, I doubt anybody at Frontier expected that you'd be going away from the 3.2 announcement in paroxysms of joy at the sweeping and fundamental changes they'd just announced to the game.

As usually happens, a bunch of people on the forums were unable to separate their hopes and dreams from factual statements and as usually happens, some of them will now throw their toys out of the pram.

All of this has happened before and will happen again.
