Does anyone play this?

I've often thought I like the idea of it but have no idea how you can get into this game.

Any help?

Get to a gaming convention, sit at a table that runs a demo game, have fun and enjoy :) That's the best way to discover RPGs.

I play every Monday evening, though we switch it up between D&D 3.5 and Call of Cthulhu (at the moment we are in the middle of a Cthulhu campaign).

I also run 5E games for my kids and some of their friends.

The best way to get into it is to go visit a local gaming shop and see if they know of any local groups (some shops even have gaming nights where you can play). There's also things like Dragonmeet where you can go and meet people, and play games, etc.: https://www.dragonmeet.co.uk/

There's also online tools like Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds which you can sign up and play games over the internet with people via webcam.

If you just want to get a better idea of the game there are a ton of great streams of games nowadays. Probably the most popular is Critical Role, which is a bunch of video game and cartoon voice actors who've been playing together for years (Matt Mercer is an incredible Dungeon Master), but there's also Dice, Camera, Action on the official Dungeons & Dragons channel.

There's also the following:

Did a lot of tabletop gaming (Dungeons and Dragons, GURPS, and Battletech were our three main games) when I was younger, and I still have three wardrobe sized cabinets full of rulebooks and worldbooks that I simply can't bear to part with. Our gaming group broke up once we started having families, and right now I'm lucky if I have enough time to play video games at home, let alone try to coordinate with a group on a weekly basis, and probably won't for another ten years at least.

If you're looking start playing, though, try your local hobby gaming store. Many of them have games going on, and most groups would be willing to help a newbie.

Un1k0rn, best way for you to get into D&D and other role playing game, based on what you said in past post about your social situation, is to try and find an online game. Roll20 is a great site to look for D&D games (I have been running various games on roll20 for years now), always games being run there, though demand is high so it might take a while to find a game. There are also discord channels for roleplayers, joining one if those might also help find a game for new players to D&D. Also many other role playing games out there as well, not just D&D (which is a great way to be introduced to role playing games).

Find a local game store. Also, Meetup.com has groups that can help. It's very easy to find a group. Then you have to find a group you like. :)

Call of Cthulhu

Brilliant game, and one that teaches you not to become too invested in your character, because sooner or later you are going to end up a gibbering wreck as those insaity points pile up.

Don't limit yourself to D&D OP, there are many great RPGs out there. One of my favourites is Paranoia (another game where you shouldn't get attached to your character), which is a great game to play when smashed out of your gourd.

Interestingly, Call of Cthulhu is the most popular tabletop RPG in Japan.

I can recommend it. Been playing RPGs since about 1981. Still do today. I think classic D&D is still my favourite. I tend to play with pen and paper only. Players draw thier own maps (if they can be bothered) and no miniatures, although when DMing I do sometimes draw or print out some of the monsters to help with descriptions.

SAN loss is common on this board, as well. :)
