Or thereabout!
Drones, you love them or you hate them, they are real. Our lovely politicians want to control them, however the cat is already out of the bag.
I fly them with a big passion, and I love to hack the software to get them to work like I want them to work, and not how the manufacture want them to work.
DJI love to make NFZ that will bring down your drone at the most odd places, The FAA chart is not equal to were this company restrict you to fly.
Luckily there are more competitors around now, and they do not have this restriction. It has always been my opinion that the Pilot is responsible and not the
manufacturers of the product.
Automation automation automation, I love automation.
Making a flight plan, let the drone execute, send it off and watch the result when it returns is a great trill, of course you can't do this in a populated area, and I never do that, mostly I fly to islands that is not inhabited. I got a cheap "toy drone" fixed wing, modified the batteries (2 hours of flight time, from 20 minutes)
Tweaked the software, removed some limitations and planned my first real long distance flight. Flight time calculated to 100 minutes.
Got some headwind on my first 2 legs, reducing the speed to around 20 Mph, so my batteries was going hot to feed the motor. 3rd leg had some side wind, but I dropped the alt to around 20 meters flying around the island into the bay.
inside the bay the plan was to gain altitude and to to 200 meters so i could get across the island to the otherside. I need to mention that on the island there are no cell towers, so I can't track the drone, however I do have a GPS tracker and can check it with the tracker. All in all a great flight, everything went according to plan, I had 60% battery capacity left, and that was actually more than calculated, maybe it was the strong tail wind on the returning leg.
Now I'm not going to upload a video, because you never know, however I will link to this amazing video, almost using the same equipment and mods.
This is not a autonomous flight, as he got cell tower connection all the time, and is an populated area, however you get the picture, same drone, same equipment.
