Turning a tablet into a touch panel for ship actually pretty easy! WILLING TO ASSIST

Greetings commanders. (For the lazy among you TLDNR)
I am not sure how common the LEA software is within the community but I started playing around with it yesterday and it is actually pretty g easy and handy. (and I don't mean like your high school girlfriend's aunt!)
Not trying to do the whole "hey everybody, come see how good I look" thing... just trying to point out to those that don't know of this that it exists.

I get around the black with an xbox one controller on my PC for the most part (yuck I know but its quieter than my M&KB attached to the PC in the bedroom I share with your mum) and the use of the 10inch touch screen sitting on my lap is convenient AF. You can connect this to pretty much any android or apple device, I will also be testing if multiple devices can be linked to the same Elitedangerrous.exe.

These are just a couple of the panels I knocked up for my Python however I've nearly finished one with full fighter controls and some more advanced cooling macros for both my Krait Mk II and Corvette.

YOU WILL NEED TO OPEN THE IMAGES AS I AM A MUPPET AND LINKED THEM TOO LARGE
THE "SUPPORT US" GRAPHIC IS FOR THE LEA APPLICATION NOT ME

And before anyone has a bloody big old whinge about it... the jettison cargo button requires me to unlock it (as one would an iPhone) before I can press it so no "LET THERE BE LI....oh bum, there goes my cargo".

If anyone does decide to give it a crack and wants a bit of a heads up on how to get it all working without having to sift through the guide, hit me up on here or discord and I'd be happy to help out.
Also if anyone wants anything let me know because I will probably be making one for each popular ship.

Hi,

happy to see a LEA and custom dashboard user :) ! Nice panels!

I've played with it too for a few days, trying to make an F16-like panel. It is amazing, how flexible LEA is in case of editing (compared to Roccat PowerGrid's strict approach).

My only issue is, that (as far as I know) LEA can send commands only to one pre-defined program, when it is in focus. Do you know a way, how I could send commands for example to VoiceAttack, which is an inactive window (while playing Elite)? PowerGrid can do this, so it is not a great problem, it would be just more efficient to use one app, instead of two...

Best regards!

I do not have voice attack myself but if there is a way to make it be a constantly active and on top window, you could resize it to the size of a button and leave it off to the side. If so, I guess theoretically you may be able to make that work.
Alternatively you could link all your LEA commands to macro software that does interact with voice attack and then run it alongside elite... so it would be:
TABLET ==> macro/ritualised keyboard ==> voice-attack ==> ELITE
That's the trial and error I would be doing in your shoes anyways my dude.
OR

If you have children... make a super complex panel and yell at them to make it work... its like voice attack and quality parenting time all in one whack!

Cool panel too... kinda makes me think of a pip-boy for a fighter jet [smile] If I could recommend turning the Alpha on the text colour down a tiny bit (perhaps to maybe like 210) it will make the text look more like it is part of the button underneath.

But yeah I am surprised more people don't use/talk about this. Like I g used in on Dark Souls earlier today... its rad!

Hi,

I haven't noticed the similarity with the PipBoy until you mentioned, but yeah, it is definitely there :) . The panel is part of the F16 fighter's dash, slightly modified. And I like Fallout too :) . I should add some Star Trek or Airwolf sound effects to the buttons to make the whole picture complete :).

By macro software, you mean something like AutoHotkey?

The link I posted earlier is the link to the play store app page for the LEA extended input app. I've not had a chance to do anything with it yet, but I figured it might just save someone else rooting around for it :)

Hi, you can do that by activating the remote mode: right click on the LEA tray icon then select remote mode, you need to do that each time you reboot your PC

I created my own server which sits on my main gaming PC running Elite and VoiceAttack. The server monitors the Status and Journal. I then have clients (C#, Java) running on my Mac and Laptop which use this information, to display Gauges (GPS Navigation, Speed, Elevation, Various System Statuses). The client can also send information to the server, which in turn links to Voice Attack or Elite Directly using keystrokes.

An example of this.

I Jump to a System, this gets logged in the Journal, My server picks it up. My laptop is polling the server and picks up this info. It then goes of to the EDDB and gets various information. It also looks at the current bounties list. It will then send a command back to the server which then decodes the command and tell VoiceAttack to announce that there are POIs (actual points of interest I've collected myself or online), Any systems worth scanning for exploration and and Bounties for collection. My Mac is also polling, and if it sees that my ship is in GPS mode, it will search it's local DB and if possible pick a co-ordinate and then populate the Navigation gauge. It then monitors my heading and checks it against the calculated heading for the GPS and if I'm off by more than 10 degrees, it will send a command to my server which in turn will send the yaw keystroke to my ships via Elite Executable. They're just a few examples, there is so much more I do and have yet to finish. (I'm a developer so, I kinda have a head start. However I suck at graphics so it's just gauges, buttons and lists)

I found LEA some days ago and i like it, as it is more flexible than Powergrid. Here is my first Version of DangerousLCARZ Smartphone Blue:

It is ready for Chapter 4, but unfortunately in german. Perhaps, i will port it into english.

Looks like a really cool find! I wasn't aware this type of solution was available. Pretty neat - but won't work for those of us who play in VR. Not to say it won't be great for others!

The only downside I see is the lack of tactile confirmation for button presses. I use a similar implementation for my home control (iRule) and the only thing which bugs me is the lack of tactile confirmation (and tablet vibration doesn't cut it). Anytime I have to do something "click intensive" I always switch back to the native controller as I get tired of "finger banging" my tablet...

This where the programmable game pads really shine. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/T9-Singlehanded-Professional-Ergonomic-Gameboard/dp/B00QE1XH8Q/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1543597618&sr=8-5&keywords=Logitech+Programmable+keypad. Once your muscle memory is developed, you don't even have to look at the keypad anymore (unlike a tablet).

The software is still a pretty cool find though!

This looks like a great find, and at a most convenient time.

Firstly, I've been wondering how on earth I am going to manage all the new bindings for 3.3. Secondly, the local office supplies outlet has some cheap 10" Android tablets. Thirdly, my wife has been asking me what I want for Christmas and I couldn't think of anything...

Yeah, so I tried to play around with the app and see if I could make it work on the Xbox One. And It doesn't. Well, I couldn't get it to at least.
