ED now unplayable in VR - 90% of the time

More than likely true, but with my setup I'll try anything to keep it running smoothly. Definitely looking to finish a new build next month that should solve all of my issues.

So last night i tanked my frame rate again. i think i have figured the cause.

if i have a webpage open it seems to cause the problem.. however not ALL webpages do it, and on closing it is not an instant fix, it takes about 30 seconds for it to settle down.

This is a bit of a pain for ED as it is a game where having a webpage open can be useful!!!

but i managed to repeadedly tank my framerate and then get it to recover again last night.

this was using firefox. dunno if others have the issue.

You could try stopping FF from using (Hardware accelleration) the GPU it will by default.

can be found under options : performance

Might help a tad.

that is a sad story :(

the infuriating thing for me is it STILL works sometimes, therefore it isnt insurmountable. eventually i got it working for 10 mins before bed and it was perfect again...... i shall reproduce the same steps if it happens again (and also take Flimleys advice, thanks)

but it was jerky mess for me, then i had a 15 min dabble on The Blu, then elite worked perfect.

the last time the fix was run through the sensor calibration again, and after that it worked fine. (i am not doing that every time mind you).... i wonder if something is not turning on properly with elite, but if you run a vr app 1st it turns something on, then allowing Elite to run properly?

(seems a bit of an unlikely explanation in a poorly worded way, but i am a biologist so............. ;) )

Yup

This is now happening to me. Starts off fine then after a bit of combat - ugh!

I also use firefox.

Also, loading into my game at one of the new Guardian sites and it was a chugfest. It was totally fine when I exited it earlier.

What is going on?

Removing windows10 preinstalled “crapware” (as far as I’m concerned)

For instance, the windows10 operating system includes preinstalled programs which cannot be removed using “uninstall a program” via control panel. Instead we will be using PowerShell to do that. The last thing I wanted on my system was all the Xbox guff, that includes the game killing game bar and gaming app which has caused peoples VR to be stuck at 60fps, when it decides to activate, because...windows!. Zune music, 3D builder, Skype, News, Bing.. the list goes on. And as I’m running a lean ‘gaming’ machine I personally wanted it all gone !

Below is the link . ....”disclaimer” Read through the article and make sure you understand it. And while the process is easy, and, your unlikely to break anything. Being relatively confident with computers helps. If you have doubts leave alone.
Oh, and make sure your certain you want these programs off your system !
I’m not stating that any of this will help make VR smoother for you, but I personally prefer running a lean decluttered machine, with the least amount of superfluous software as possible.

Hi
Will the MS store games still work ok if I do this? I player gears 4 for instance. Thanks

Hi mike, well it looks as if you would need to keep the Microsoft store. And, if you ever want to transfer or cross play between Xbox and PC accounts. Then keeping Xbox will be essential for that. I have no knowledge if Microsoft have made this “a thing” yet ? As a caveat, I would recommend a bit of research and pondering first regarding that*

I do not use any of the extra programs windows offers, so for me it was a case of going through one by one, the whole list in powershell.

*additional... these apps can be reinstalled with a single piece of PowerShell code. (See the bottom of the guide). I have never needed to do this, but it’s nice to have that option
