Guardian Site not activating?

So I have activated all 6 pylons, parked my SRV over the cross, jettison the ancient relic and nothing.
I keeps on placing the relic on the edge of the cross?

Is it a bug?

I'm at the HIP 36781 site.

Worked for me yesterday.
I park just in front of the X, with my front wheels just touching the bottom edges of the "legs".
That's facing the place where the orb comes out, so I just drive over the X afterwards.

Have you fully charged the pylons? You need to keep shooting them until they fire a beam into the sky, you then get more time added for the other pylons.

That site needs a KEY not a relic. Go to a Guardian Beacon, charge the pylons with your ship's guns and scoop up the key after scanning the orb.

Yeh that's weird, I did one at the weekend and it placed it directly on the X. I was at a different site though. I assume you tried re-logging and doing it all again?

Ahh is that true? I thought you could use either? Key for vessel bp and Relic for the others?

Yes all 6 Pylons were charged, had the alert saying all six were done.

I tried positioning the SRV in all areas of the cross, slightly forward, slightly back, to the sides. etc.

Yes I did log out and logged back in and done the sequence again and still the same.

I haven't tried the Key but is that a fact that the site I'm on only uses the key?

What blueprint are you trying to get?
The key thing makes sense, but the relic didn't want to fall in when I was on top of the X at all.

This is my first site so not sure what blueprint I will get. Just thought I would try it out.

So are you having the same problem?

You need the KEY from the guardian beacon if it's one of the new sites.

Was going to try the key later, just wanted some confirmation that it isn't an assumption.

Yeh I wasn't picking on him either, I genuinely did not know there was two different site types, when I was there it looked just like a regular Guardian site. I made the assumption like SHARK that you could use either mechanic to get which BP you needed.

The thing that gave it away to me as being a different kind of Guardian site was that it wasn't a complete PITA to land at! ;-)

So are you having the same problem?

The first site I went to I was getting shot at while I tried to drop a relic in from atop the X.
It went in fine when I was just facing the X with all my wheels on the ground.

Whether you are at a site that requires a key instead, or not, I don't know.

How does one determine if it's one of the new sites?
The site I dropped a key at, had relics there.
Those don't do anything then?

I'm no expert, I've only visited one of the new sites. It was in one of the areas mentioned in the Galnet article in game. Whether or not there are any of the old ones in those areas, I'm not sure. However the site I did go to was on a completely flat surface, whereas all the old ones were really difficult to land at, on very uneven ground. The new sites seem to have the full complement of guardian artefacts with the exception of the key, which you need to get from the beacons.

The relics do not trigger the ship blueprint drops at the new sites.

Ok, but for the record the old site(?) I used a relic at was very easy to land at.

I landed within the ruins themselves and my ship lights covered a good portion of the area.

I have the locations saved in game if anyone wants them.

I never landed within the ruin sites as I did not know whether the sentinels could destroy my ship.

For people who asked how to tell if it's a new site. The new sites have so much sentinels that you might actually lose your SRV. So if there's only some of them then it's a relic site.
