News Implementation of a dedicated mission server

Boardflipping has not been fun, but when there are so few or often no good missions to choose from then what is a player to do.
Ending boardflipping would be great, but only if that means the missions offered is going to be improved significantly.

Increasing rewards is not the solution. Better mission offerings is.

Wow, how surprising. A nerf to a game mechanic that for a long time has been described as "working as intended". Of course, such a change must include upping the number of available missions so that a CMDR will be able to fill their mission roster with profitable, complete-able missions, missions that pay enough to justify using a billion and a half credit ship to complete them.

It will be very interesting to see, given recent events, how much thought and work FDev actually puts into reworking missions to compensate for the lost "unintended for 4 years" game mechanic.

As Kickstarter backer I did see the implementation of missions from day 1.

My opinion. It started wrong, and every addition could solve a view issues but not correct the wrong beginning.

The base is wrong.

What I mean, right now RNG generates missions for the existing factions in the current system, with RNG types of missions, RNG payouts & RNG materials .........

So what is offered to me is VERY depending on RNG!

What I would PREFER is to MINIMIZE the RNG.

I would like to see a MISSION BOARD that gives me the possibility to SEARCH ACTIVE for

1. specific types of missions I want to do right now
2. specific types of materials I need right now

Example: I am in Founders World and would like to find a BOUNTY HOUND mission for a WING that gives me PROTO HEAT RADIATERS ( I need that badly for engineering).

Right now there is no way for me to find something like this ACTIVELY, instead I see f.e. the board generating BOUNTY HOUND SOLO missions with REFINED FOCUS CRYSTALS ...... or it has a ONLY MINING mission with PROTO HEAT RADIATERS but I dont want to do mining right now, I am with a friend and we want to do some BH!!!!!

Current solution ???? BOARDFLIPPING until the servers melt down - and my nerves also because RNG dont gives me what I need.. FRUSTRATING!!!!

Of cause I dont want do have a button to generate missions the minute I want them the way I want them....

What I would like to see is a MISSION BOARD that gives me the opportunity to SEARCH the MISSIONS BOARDS of all system in lets say 100 LY from my current location for WHAT I WANT TO DO RIGHT NOW -
1. BH MISSION in a WING 2. that gives me PROTO HEAT RADIATERS .....

It should then give me the opportunity to ACCEPT this mission even if its in a this other system 68 LY away .... then my friend and I do 2,3,4 jumps to this system and the FUN STARTS. Additional to that - after finishing the mission I get my PROTO HEAT RADIATERS and can jump to my favorite engineer to do my module upgrade!

I think with the implementation of a MISSION SERVER this should be easier to do as the missions will be CONSISTENT as you describe!

Having a way to find exactly the WANTED mission with the wanted MATERIALS
1. would make BOARDFLIPPING UNNECESSARY,
2. GENERATE MORE FUN - I do what I want to do right now ( only a small delay if I have to jump 2-3 systems to get to the other system )
3. GENERATE MORE SATISFACTION - because I get the materials I need and no other stuff I already have plenty of...

BTW: I also would like to see mission with a much higher TIME COUNTER - not only a view hours or 1 day. Why not 1 week?

It's a game with rules, not 'do it all' buffet. Those rules and balances are engaged to make some sense out of it. And yes, that's always a choice - accept those rules, or go elsewhere.

Really?

I thought it was a sandbox where you can do what you want. You know, 'Blaze your OWN trail' and all that.

This. Nobody likes board flipping, but when I open the board and see that half of the missions are wing missions and the other half are unavailable due to insufficient faction reputation... what do you want me to do?

Board flipping happens/ed so that you could actually find missions for your chosen faction. If this means there is essentially only one mission board, and the mission generation doesn't change otherwise, I fear you're significantly nerfing missions as an option for targeted BGS play.

But goal is that you can't find missions you want to grind so easily. It is specially designed that way to prevent that.

We could still have the Wing missions moved to a different board or filterable, unless the game is designed to clutter your panels with useless stuff too?

A quick (and I think easy) QOL thought....

It's often a bit of a faff to find missions that are at destinations you're already going to or want to go to.

But it's also probably quite a faff to come up with clever interface stuff to make this less of a struggle.

So, as a simple solution, how about:

-- If a mission is going to a location which is already a mission destination this is indicated in the list.
-- If a mission is going to a location which is your currently selected system destination then this is indicated in the list.
-- If a mission is on the route to a currently selected system or existed mission destination this is indicated in the list.

This could be done either with icons or by sorting the missions so that convenient ones are first (perhaps alongside follow-on missions).

It would make things a bit quicker and easier without having to do anything ludicrously clever to the existing interface.

Ultimately all missions should be the same. You can choose to do them solo or in a wing. there should be no distinction in pay or difficulty. easy missions should be easy. hard missions should be hard, and depending on your skill/equipment you should be able to share that missions with a wing or not.

problem solved.

*we found that only 2.8% of daily online players were using the mission system in this way.

Maybe other ones are doing different stuff? Ok, no more jokes. I also hope you are going to revamp the Board, with new sub-boards, new sections related to mission's type. For example, Main board - sub-boards: industry needs / murder / data delivery / massacre (in suitable system status) and so on, each one with a decent number of missions. It would be a shame trying to help your "Player minor faction", by doing illegal missions or killing missions with a trade T9, just because you were unlucky in the last refresh.
Fly safe.

Very disappointed to see the amount of player groups using 'board flipping' to artificially increase their influence gains from missions. Glad to see that go.

I think that can be solved with introduction of NPC wing. But I agree with sentiment. I think missions should be all the same and players should choose way how to approach them. Do they want to split income, or take it all with themselves, or hire NPC wing and crew.

After all the excitement large, BGS-enthused player factions had for 3.3 before fleet carriers were removed, now what we get is a reshuffling of the mission system that may further complicate finding those rare missions that make daily bgs work possible. Of all the things that could use fixing or improvement, it’s my daily “chores” that get attention and likely not for the better. I’m not sure that there will be anything left in 3.3 that incentivizes people to build up large factions or make a lasting impact on the galaxy. Maybe only 3% of player regularly use board flipping, but only a small fraction of PMFs are even present in more than one system at this point. When devoted end game level players have to spend hours shopping for a decent spawn of missions, the removal of half of of these potential missions would be disastrous.

Me and my friends work the bgs and never board flip. I have over a billion credits and I too don't do missions solely for cash. Board flipping is manipulation of the game in a way it was never intended, ie. Cheating. You can justify it all you want with whatever excuse you have but it is cheating by manipulation. I think it's great that they plan on cutting it down. My faction is in enough systems that between running to and from from them, I always have 20 missions on hand. Always. Not sometimes. Always. Instead of focusing on one station or even system, focus on your entire faction and how to work systems hand in hand with one another.
