News Implementation of a dedicated mission server

It's a game with rules, not 'do it all' buffet. Those rules and balances are engaged to make some sense out of it. And yes, that's always a choice - accept those rules, or go elsewhere.

Lol, you just made me spit out my coffee.
Funniest reply of the day, especially the "make some sense of it" part, never saw that perspective while looking at the guardian grinds.

I'll go elsewhere now,.......the kitchen to get a new cuppa.

Thanks for the updated, Will. Looking forward to actually seeing this in action and how we can help improve the overall game mechanics.
Regards

Then maybe they should reduce the grind because this way this aspect of the game just isn't fun.

Reduce what grind? It is people chose to do so. I get to station, I pick some interesting missions, I just go and do them. I don't think - ohh I need to do this to get BGS over here and over here, and we should win this system.

It is not what ED is about. And this is why PMF are just a curse on the game. It is not about executive control, nor about territorial control. It is about influence. And only. And you don't pick what you do.You get job offerings and you either do them, or look elsewhere.

10% increase on mission payouts sounds nice, until you realise most of the wing cargo missions that are making your faction rich are already hitting the max 50m payout.

Well....

This is total bull.

You realy think they're trying to throw ED overboard? Just wow.
Yes Fdev is doing a lot of things, erm, not good imho but this conspiracy stuff is total bullsh*t.

Tell me that it doesn't LOOK that way though. Honestly. There are a few people that stand up for fdev, white knighting them with the loudest voices possible every time someone lays down some criticism.. but the sheer volume of criticism.. particularly repeated criticism... especially over monumentally boring GRIND should be enough to very clearly identify a problem...

The other half of the complaint is that there's really not much in the way of narrative gameplay. Things to actively get involved in... and frankly the CG's that do exist are very boring and repetitive. The engineering, despite some progress forward is also... still boring and, yep. You guessed it.. repetitive.

Most recently... on the eve of possibly the most exciting event I've seen the community rally for since I've started playing... they opted to use the SAME DAMN NARRATIVE that they have used how many times now? "The Gnosis was attacked by thargoids and is crippled". People are not complaining because the Gnosis got popped by 'goids. We all KNEW that was going to happen. We are because it was LAZY. We were all excited, waiting to see what would happen, and if was the same damn story. Nothing original. Nothing interesting. Just fdev shatting on yet another opportunity to get involved with their community and make something FUN happen.

By all accounts, fdev has made many very lazy decisions. I keep saying it, but fleet carriers... easy win, and they shrugged them off... why? No reason provided. They don't dare say it's for technical reasons because those of us in the technical community will dissect any excuse they provide. The fact that they have NOT addressed it suggests that they know their excuse is flimsy.

Every time I see fdev put something out, it's what they want to release and has very very little to do with what I see people asking for REPEATEDLY in these forums, on the facebook groups or in the youtube and twitch streams I watch. But, maybe people can convince themselves that my circle of influence is just too small to get a bigger picture.

And so... with a history, at least in the last 18 months or so, of ignoring the community over and over again... and again... and again... how can we NOT feel a little... conspiratorial? A lot of the decisions that have been made make that little sense.. so little sense that it could ONLY be a really profound level of ignorance, arrogance or stupidity.

Best news since four years.
The end of relogging approved exploits.

next move should be cut-off relogging on bases, guardian sites and other farming places.

* that practice is utilised not by some players, but some players not utilised that practice. Its more true statement.
its not a matter how much of players did it daily, but how much of players used it at all, because making a one billion of credits at now is a matter of one day, so after a week of board flipping you do not need to do it anymore, or any missions at all, because you have over 7 billions of credits on your account (including every ship and empire/fed rank).

I suppose a game have less than 2.8% new playes daily so you can assume a 100% (okay, 99.9999%) of new players are using board flipping :)

Pleased to hear the mission servers will be separated, will this mean you can increase the number of missions offered to the players further? Board flipping is lame but it's often the only way to get a reasonable number of missions banked before undocking. Taking one or two missions at a time because that's all there is available of the type you want to do is frustrating and sitting in the station waiting for the next tick isn't very fun.

What will happen regarding players looking for specific types of mission, or mission destinations rather than just higher payouts, are they condemned to wait for the next board refresh?

I'm thinking in particular about a certain Marco Gwent which is stubborn to appear at the best of times. Will the new mission system allow for these types to be 'pinned' so that they always appear when they should?

Sure but as I said, that's not a goal of neither BGS, or mission board. Mission board is to provide goal driven context to what's happening in BGS, not provide you missions you would specially like to do.

I think it’s to provide you with enough selection that you can be selective in missions. Otherwise you risk certain types of missions not showing at all. Which is why the people who board hop even board hop. FDev has even said in the past that board hopping can be used in cases where missions you want aren’t showing. They started all of this because for some reason open mission selection is a problem and you seem to be ok with that issue. I am not and many others aren’t as well. The “never the point” comment really just shows how ok you are with limited mission selection and how it cuts off many that can’t play all day. People just don’t have the time to make Elite everything they do and we shouldn’t have to wait for any mission type. Not just the ones we like to do.

wdit: long story short. You say that’s not what it’s for then maybe it should be.

And then it takes you two years to earn the right to buy a Corvette.

But that's not even what I'm talking about. I get to a station, I want to do those missions for a reason. I want to get allied with the faction, or I want to promote its influence in the system. If I see that there isn't enough missions for me to do that in a way that I enjoy, I will look elsewhere — to a game that lets me do what I enjoy. And I'm sure FDev isn't a big fan of the idea of players just leaving, so in the end they will (hopefully) tweak the game to make it enjoyable to as many players as possible. And that's why we are making suggestions in this here thread.

Cause is a bit of min maxing syndrome some (2.8%) people engage with because they are goal driven. Mission system in ED is not, it is situational feedback system. Show me where in MMOs you can pick and choose what you do? You can't, that's whole point of missions offering different things.

this is not an MMO. it's a sandbox. show me a sandbox where you DON'T get to pick and choose what you do.

Blaze your own trail indeed.

The 2.8% is a little disengenuous - you've stripped all the exploitive nature out of the missions so there's no real gold rushes anymore. Give us figures from years ago when Robigo was a thing - I bet it would be huge.

Excellent news, however. Going forward, this will make the game actually feel a bit more "living" than just a glorified main menu that gives you 3 choices: Instance 1, 2, or 3?

Now separate Wing Missions from Solo Missions in separate menus, and you're on to a winner.

 Yeah, i'm not sure it will work out fine. Nothing that's happened so far gives me any indication of doubting that.

On a totally different note, are you finall seperating wing- and normal missions, so that solo players don't get a board fuill of wing misisosn and vice-versa? Cause that would be just swell.

It's also worth noting that, as a result of a dedicated 'mission server', there will be a removal/significant reduction of the method of refreshing mission boards by logging in and out of the game ("board flipping"). While we understand that this is a practice utilised by some* players, this was never the intended use of the mission system.

As others have already said, this is in large a side effect of the mission generation system and the "work around" that you are seeing is driven by this, it's the old "symptom not the cause" situation. If, for your chosen faction, all 20 missions are mining? if all 15 passenger missions are VIP? Of course people are going to board flip as that's the choice the mission generation functions are themselves forcing upon players when all mission options are identical.

Man, I'm with you on many accounts, the grinds, the overabundance of combat tools, the stupid Guardian grind to obtain stuff, neglected exploration, the cancelation of carriers and ice planets, the empty promises of things to come, oh let's not forget the long standing bugs, etc.
I've stopped playing recently, at the release of NMS Next actually, and only if the Q4 update turns out good I'll consider playing again.

But.....

Them intentionally getting rid of the playerbase so they can toss ED altogether is just to far fetched for me.
We'll see what happens and if you're right then I'll admit that okay?

I see how this will go ;)

This week : Well done FD, no2flipping
Next Week : OMG FD, I can't get missions u suck!

I'm sure it will be fine - rather than payout can you increase the numbers of missions available plz [up]

I can see this exact scenario happening. The number of missions offered will have to increase or rewards improved. Hopefully Navy missions will appear.

Sure but as I said, that's not a goal of neither BGS, or mission board. Mission board is to provide goal driven context to what's happening in BGS, not provide you missions you would specially like to do.

Here's me thinking we play this game to enjoy it?

Clear, concise info on changes that are good for the game.
A welcome change from the "it's gonna be really cool, but we can't discuss anything right now" method.

Thanks Will, keep it up. :)
