Hardware & Technical I am thinking about upgrading my GPU

I stand corrected, partially. I still doubt < €700 in continental Europe. :)

Not any more, I now stand corrected too, Since yesterday that card has gone up by £160...

Well, if you want it now, still on back order & on prime for the £605 I quoted...

I was thinking of going new on an upgraded GPU but I instead decided to gamble and shoot for a "low miles" card off of Ebay. There were/are lots of high end cards on the used market in anticipation of the 2080's coming out. I ended up with a lightly used EVGA GTX 1080 FTW2 ICX card that retails for $680 on Newegg. I won the auction for under $400. So far so good as the card was uber clean and runs great so I am happy.

A quick check of Newegg has many of their 1080's under the $500 mark right now so the prices keep falling.

Did I jump the gun and buy too soon as new prices may fall even further? Maybe. Maybe not. Only time will tell.

I remember buying the GTX 280 a decade ago for about 280 quid. I think from Overclockers.co.uk That was top spec and very affordable. The next gen about to hit the shelves requires mortgage level commitments. A few marriages are going to suffer for sure.

Maybe, maybe not... I picked up a brand new EVGA FTW GTX 1080 for $429. I keep hearing about this supposed glut of 10 series cards, but the prices have gone up in the last 10 days or so. You can still find some buys for the 1080 and 1070, oddly the 1070ti is an absolute mess but that's maybe because there was never that many made.

Bottom line, you bought it, enjoy it!

I would ask myself what games am i playing or going to play and what output resolution am i going to use. If you can afford a 4k g-sync monitor then I'm sure you can afford the higher end card. I can't but I can afford the 32 inch dell alienware ultrawide in 2k at just under a grand. Bought a gtx 1070 ti founder's edition for 475$ and it pushed everything I play at 2k really good..then my old lady bought me another 1070ti founder's as a gift. So I'm guessing I'm getting about 1080ti performance right now in games that support it.
