Do I buy an eagle

I have been saving for another ship setup (still very much a novice). I had figured on needing 26K for an eagle, 3 pulse lasers, enough to put aside for insurance, and some left over cash to trade cheap goods.

Another hours play should do it, but having read around the forum, there seems to be so much negative comments about the eagle, so would like to ask a few questions.

1/ is it faster than the sidewinder?
2/ is the range greater than the sidewinder?
3/ seeing as I do not want to save for a more expensive ship, is it worth getting?

If not I might as well buy a new sidewinder just to get shut of the sticky plaster on the interior

At least at this time, the eagle has a less than favorable reviews.

I found the Eagle one of the biggest disappointments in the game (which sounds more dramatic than it is). Its a fighter, but its slower than a Cobra... A Viper, also a fighter, is twice as fast, carries twice as much and has better guns mounts.

Skip it, its a waste of money, imho.

Once it's jump range is corrected, it'll become a lot more useful. It's meant to be a long-range fighter, but currently can barely scrape a 5LY range when fully outfitted.

The one plus I can see in getting the Eagle is your satisfaction at buying your first ship. I got one (not for long mind) and it was exciting with the new feel and sound and more (3 I think) hard points. With the same cargo limitations of the Sidewinder (not much difference in range either) you would be back starting on milk runs (or a bit better equipped for bounty hunting) but that new lease might be worth it. Personally since I've already done that in Premium Beta I just saved up for a Hauler, had a pot noodle in me tranny, and went on to buy a Viper.

Skip it, its a waste of money, imho.

Still, the eagle is great fun to fly, particularly if you have head tracking. The viper disappoints here, I found myself looking at the scanner a lot more, since it lacks the visibility of the eagle. Also, the viper has an annoying silvered strut across the upper canopy, just the thing to reflect glare into your eyes, thus showing off the sophistication of the graphics engine

The eagle is a great ship, with alot of potential...

current specifications (jump range cargo hold etc) are basically bottlenecking players.
i'm guessing thats because of the beta bubble.
ships will probably get a all around buff eventually.

It depends how you define a lot faster. It's a bit faster than the Sidewinder but the Viper and Cobra leave it for dust. It's a fun ship, but in the current build the jump range is poor. The word from the devs is that it will be improved in the next build.

I agree. It's the best looking ship c'mon FD give it an edge somewhere or nobodys going to fly it

The eagle is basically a faster, better defensive/offense sidy.

This is Beta, try everything, enjoy it all. I bought an eagle for a short time and thoroughly loved it. It flies like a dream after the sidy and it has a different feel in the cockpit.

You can still trade it in for a hauler when you are bored, you only lose 10% or so on it.

And (again) it is Beta, The whole thing will be wiped anyway, so why not enjoy it now while it is inconsequential to your ACTUAL game?

Go on, treat yourself (even if only for a couple of days)!

If you want to have fun dog-fighting then get one - if you want to be effective then save up for a viper/cobra instead, and forgo the visibility/maneuverability.

I flew all the ships, traded like a lunatic got an anaconda etc.... am back in an eagle it's hard to shoot, fast and fun to fly just limited on jump as most have pointed out.
