Something new happened to me...

Spotted a Distress call Threat 2 (yeah right!).
Dropped in and a asp was calling for help while a viper took potshots. Think he was just competent. Nothing special. Blew him up. Then a message comes in: Hostiles incoming (something similar) and a wing of four enemies show up.
Vipers and eagles, dangerous to expert. I kill them off. The alert comes again. Similar wing. After disposing them yet another wing shows up.
After blasting them the asp says something like: Thank you very much Commander. Seems my help has arrived.
A search and rescue Conda jumps in and the asp takes off.

Never had such an encounter before. I was both thrilled and a bit nervous that the waves would just keep coming. They got me to 88% hull so it wasn't that hairy.
But cool! I was smiling while the limpets picked up the scraps.

Yes, prior to 3.2 there was no acknowledgement and sometimes no enemies. Distress calls have a number of possible scenarios, but FD keeps enabling and disabling them as they get broke and fixed again. I even had one with a capital ship again the other day (threat 6). And it wasn't break dancing or shooting the wrong people. Whodathunkit!

I take my S&R Orca our looking for these regularly. They’re quite fun. I’ve also tagged these distressed ships with repair and fuel limpets - especially if they’re badly damaged, gotten Thank Yous and seen them high tail out while I dispatch hostile ships - a beam laser and pair of guardian plasmas pack a surprising punch!

If these paid better I could make a living from them!

Some NOCs in USS scenarios still just sit there screaming for help.

Last one i saw, a T6 was asking for help. But it's 2 eagle escorts just sat there.
Surely one of them could have gone for help...?

I left them to die for their stupidity.

That's what I'm used to. Just tell myself they're shellshocked and jump on my merry way.

That is nice. Haven't played enough to start going out as a specialist.

If you've more than 12 hours in game and funds enough to move into something other than a sidewinder, you've played enough to specialize. Specialization is how you make The Big Credits. Trying to do a little bit of everything will only net a little bit of credits at a time.

Ya ya. I do have a miner, but that's not special enough :) i meant it never crossed my mind to search and rescue. Cool!

Ah, gotcha. It’s not much of a money-maker, except maybe pulling lightly toasted refugees from burning stations doesn’t pay terrible. Otherwise it usually ends up costing you credits, but it’s fun.

Had something similar two days ago. But when I jumped in, it was a Farragut Cruiser that was dead in the water. Then I got a couple of waves of enemies (with the warning 'Hostiles incoming' just as you did) then all of a sudden a second Farragut drops in to help out! Pretty cool experience.
I didn't notice the 'thank you' message though, but I could easily have missed it. There was a lot going on :D
