Powerplay I have a question for Open-only supporters.

Would you consider a Powerplay system acceptable, if it allowed players in Solo mode to move up the ranks by moving cargo or killing ships, thus earning merits, but any merits earnt in Solo provide ZERO contribution to the "bank" as it were?

This could allow players in Solo to continue getting Powerplay modules, but their activity would have no influence on the real Powerplay game that affects everyone.

To be able to contribute to the Open game, you must play in Open? Solo only allows personal progression, and no impact on the factors that affect all players?

To affect all players, you must play in Open.

No. Waste of development time. Rank 3 is 750 merits, which is a Cutter's worth of cargo. There is basically zero risk jumping from Eotienses to Agastariya to drop off fortifications; it's more effective to camp the origin than the destination. Pilots who are really, really terrified of human interaction will:

1. Pick up their materials at their power's HQ.
2. High wake from an HQ station.
3. Jump to the destination.
4. Deliver their materials.
5. Switch to solo.
6. Return to the HQ.
7. Switch to open.
8. Rinse and repeat.

Or they'll just manipulate their network settings. If people are really so terrified that their module shopping will be impeded, then we need Frontier to remove module shopping.

I thought that the Dev's mentioned, they will overlook the modules mechanic because of that simultanously.
So it is likely, if we get open only powerplay, that the modules maybe move to tech brokers or something like that.

So no, i don't think that earning merrits with no value in private would make sense

If the modules are moved elsewhere, then yeah, this suggestion of mine is not needed.

I fully support Open-only Powerplay, truly.

But something has to be done to ensure Solo/PG players aren't locked out of the modules. That's my one concern.

I agree, tech brokers are the ideal solution.

Why is that a bigger concern than Solo/PG players being locked out of actual participation?
It's not: But then that would be dependent upon who you talk to.

Question, generally: Did F.D. have any experience with MMOs, with PvP options, before making E.D.?

Frankly, I'd much prefer it if they just moved the Power Play modules to the Tech Broker, and made Power Play a strictly Open-only game mode. They can (and probably should) overhaul the credit payouts for doing it, maybe add crafting material vouchers to the rewards or something.

Smart, firewall those griefers away! My cat approves.

The question is pretty much rhetorical if you consider the delivered contents. Start from player bounties. Very little in ED makes sense from an MMO perspective.
