Will NVIDIA''s NV LINK be supported in Elite Dangerous, specifically for VR?

Thinking of replacing my Titan XP with a pair of MSI 2080 TI, but only if they are capable of improving my VR experience. [yesnod]

NVLink, in this case, is just an interconnect used for maintaining coherency between GPUs. It's vastly faster than the old SLI connector, but that won't mean much in AFR situations where the compositing data wasn't maxing out the old link.

VR specific multi-GPU rendering methods (like VR SLI) are the least likely to benefit as they generally try to run the view port for each on as independently as possible on each GPU and there is next to no compositing data to be sent over the link. However, I don't believe this applies to ED as I haven't seen anything about VR SLI support.

NVLink is most likely to benefit DX12's explicit multi-GPU mode as the coherency requirements are more varied and potentially much more demanding than AFR rendering modes. However, this doesn't apply to ED either, as ED is not DX12 and would require specific developer support even if it were.

In the end, ED supports standard SLI and that's what you'll get with dual 2080 Ti GPUs. Provided you don't have a major bottleneck elsewhere, it will be faster than a Titan Xp or a single 2080 Ti, but mostly not because of NVLink (except at resolutions and refresh rates far beyond any current VR headset) and you'll still have all of the standard SLI downsides.
