The 15 second logout timer in action

You could have gitted gud and just escaped like a man, OP.

If I can do it in an Asp, a viper, etc., then you can certainly do it in a krait.

To be fair people complaining about going into open and getting griefed is just like,

Watching the news on the Syrian civil war. Then going to Syria for a shopping spree while you're complaining about people trying to kill you.

If people are still justifying clogging even if it's multiple deaths and interdiction.

Then it's on the that keep dying with the knowledge and the options already at your fingertips.

If the people are stupid enough to feel griefed after all that.

They deserve every bit of salt grind people can get out of them.

Their own stupidity allowed it to happen.

Nice. I see most OO advocated trying to convince us all that open isn't anything at all like the Syrian civil war.

The next time you get your panties in a bunch because people call PvP guys nasty things, remind yourself to re-read the little drop of drivel quoted above. I have to assume you get some pleasure out of tossing out insults, that it helps you along in your game play.

Most of the argument is centered around the difference between a Menu/Timed Log and an out right Combat Log. Dealing with the posters that insist on some kind of moral equivalence between the two, while they dismiss any form of moral ambiguity in muder-hobo'ing.

It's a wonder you never tire of being wrong.

Not sure I follow, if people find the need to combat log everytime they are opposed. With all the other options in the game thats available to them. Its their own stupidity if they feel griefed.

How about people start taking some self responsibility and start using their brain?

Breaking the rules of engagement shouldnt ever be a thought in a multiplayer video game. Trying to get better should though.

I was sure you wouldn't understand. I basically write this stuffs for others. I have no hope of reaching you. It's a leap of faith that peeps actually log every time, but it's a convenient belief that keeps this specific boogey-man alive. Something you dearly need.

To be clear, the largest part of this conversation is about the difference between cheating, and using a game feature you have a dislike for. I can differentiate between the two in many issues in the drama that is player interaction in E|D. Many, and I place you in this camp, feel entitled to label things you don't like a cheat, and to use a cheeky expression you may get: Because... reasons.

Your rules don't apply to me. The game's rules do. I can tell the difference between the two. And, I assume, so can many others.

Yep the rules of the game should be changed so fair play is involved.

We should all be on the same page playing the same game. And we are not.

BTW it seems like I am your boogeyman. :)

Meh, there goes that ego again. I say more of a foil, than nemesis. You give me plenty of material.

I do realize you mean to say: 'Fair play entirely on my terms', that goes without saying. Yeah, I remember this tune. It goes on and on. Something like 'Freebird' but without the guitar solos.

Call for, and defend changes in the rules. That's ok. But to start insulting and mislabeling things to get some open-cred is just truly boring.

Nothing is being mislabelled. People are removing themselves either way.

1 of them just happens to be legal, and should be changed. Doesnt matter Fdev said they were working on it. Interested in why its taking so long. I have a pretty good Idea though.

So when the rules of the game change. Then what? When some of you people have to take consequences for your actions after combat logging is fixed? After mode balancing happens?

Now that you lose your competitive edge of being defended against in powerplay or PMF play? Then what?

You guys gonna quit because the game got too hard? Cant handle some space pixels being blown up?

I mean we all play games, Winning and losing is not a big deal.

But here you guys make it out to be some life or death situation, compare people to real life sociopaths and give them free armchair psychologist appointments.

So Im just trying to figure out, if and when they do make balancing changes, what are some of you guys going to do?

Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock... Better take the time to learn.

Because time is indeed running out.

See ya soon :)

But wait! Menu-logging is fair play when used by unarmed, empty ships which have been targeted by PvP'ers who treat other players as content. :D

Besides, FD won't change the 15s timer. If they did, then combat logging would definitely become more prolific. :)

Or you could punish people for doing it like they do in other games.

Hell, Nintendos Splatoon can do this.

Rainbow 6 siege does it. Not only do they do it. But they tell the whole community why they got in trouble and sends out a global message for all to see.

If they can do it. Fdev is more than capable. And I hope they fix everything around it.

We have a really cool game to play based around player interaction. Of course this stuff will be fixed to support it.

I just wish people would realize that. It doesn't mean what we have now cant change.

I have been following this thread from the sidelines, not because I don't care, just since I don't PvP the whole logging off to avoid contact doesn't come into my gameplay or not. Basically if an NPC is good enough to destroy me then so be it, I get to see the rebuy screen.

But I do like to keep abreast of current events, so curious to see what is the current synopsis of this thread. Lets see if I have it right:

Combat Logging (hard disconnecting): Is considered really bad Ju-Ju, punishable by death, or at least being slapped in the face by a dead haddock followed by a severe talking to. Considered an illegal act by everyone except those that do it. The only solution is for FD to completely redo their hardware to change the current architecture (so to placate a very small minority).

Exiting via the 15 Second Timer: Considered legal by FD, their accepted way of avoiding life, death and taxes. Community is divided as to whether it is okay or not, PvP'er consider it one small step down from CL'ing, a really really bad thing to do and anyone who does it should be hung up by their thumbs and made to watch re-runs of The Star Wars Holiday Special in VR.

Taking it like a man (or woman or being of unspecified gender/race/species): The ultimate solution, becoming that ever expanding could of cosmic dust that use to be your pride and joy, the look of amazement and wonder as you gaze at the re-buy screen wondering what went wrong. Preferred by PvP players the world over, not so highly looked upon by those flying unshielded T6's in a CG though.

Have I got the gist of the conversation right or is there another option or a group that have a different take on this saga of sagas?

Pretty much. The Real reason its bad is because people can still turn in things like powerplay merits/propaganda or Influence missions for the BGS.

Even using the 15 second timer is allowing someone to do the same thing as someone pulling the plug with alt+f4. The end result is still the same.

It's about winning and losing yes.

I even see my fellow PVPers say "At this point if they log its a win". Some of my own friends really dont understand why combat logging is actually bad.

Not trying to veer off subject much, but this is why I have a problem with the modes. If combat logging is bad and people still get the chance to turn in powerplay merits because they removed themselves from the situation? Then really if the end result is logging out in the middle of the engagement to complete the turn in of something like merits or influence in the mode they should have chosen to begin with.

Then does combat logging really matter?

When the modes give you the option the whole time?

So thats why I have an issue with Combat Logging in any shape and form. You still achieve the same end result no matter the outcome.

Because of this. Its killed parts of the gameplay loops that were supposed to be available to us.

This game was never supposed to have the label "Mile wide inch deep". The community did it to themselves, and ironally Fdev built the game and let it happen.

The only thing I can figure out why it was allowed. Is because of the technology limitations they started out with.

Heres hoping they can update some of that stuff in the future.

We have a really awesome game in front of us. Id like to be able to use it.

That's essentially correct.

However another subset of players who gitted-gud can remove pew-pews from their gametime at will - and the pew-pews are most unhappy about that because they aren't gitted-gud enough to prevent it and FD themselves don't have the architecture for it to be an impossibility, and the subset in question love nothing more than extracting salt from the salt extracting pew-pews who need to tell everyone to git gud.

It'll continue to go round in circles forever, I'm afraid.

Great story, my commiserations! Last time I was out 'farming the HazRes' in my controversial Vette, I found myself both irked and amused to discover that Tiffany (my pilot crewmember) was just half a percentage point from Elite combat ranking, whilst I myself am still far off. Good thing I am so fond of her. I think I would actually mourn for days if I lost her now. Well, she won't have much to do for a while now, so she can slob in her quarters watching ancient sitcoms as much as she likes.

Thank you... To be honest, I don't miss Angela. She was constantly complaining about my not cleaning the head properly after using it, and insisted I should be using one of those "air refresheners". Air refreshener! Me! I ask you! My foul stench has saved me time and again. Why, last time I spilt somebody's drink at a bar, that was what saved me. He was about to take a swing at me, got a noseful, and started retching, allowing me to make good my escape . . . :D

Too much information, I guess. Let's just say it's a good thing they haven't figured out how to reproduce smell in games. :D

Or, on the Forums. For that, we must all give thanks. After my Wife got pregnant, my nose got real sensitive.

Thank you both for replying

So in essence your concern isn't really with the whole CL'ing/15 seconds bit but the fact that there are three modes and in two of them people can dodge your wrath? But what if players don't want to be part of your gameplay, they are quite content to play the game that was designed, the whole 'Lone Commander making their way in the Galaxy' bit and don't want to be destroyed going about their daily business by someone for either lulz or some obscure role playing excuse? There may be many reasons why players chose to inhabit the Open, Solo or PG galaxies, no one should be looked down upon because they chose the mode that suits their gaming style. Forcing everyone to become your content, to play by your rules will result in a lot of salt to flow, just the same if someone forced you to play Solo.

Dont get involved in Player based objectives. The attackers are the ones that usually start this mess. From another mode where they cant be stopped. If they are found in open they combat log and still complete the same objective.

For the love of god its not about being someones content.

I think you guys need to start looking at the bigger picture here.

And try to understand the game in front of you. And why its been in trouble the past year and a half.

These are obvious problems that has nothing to do with other people being someones content.

Its about proper game balancing over objectives. Please do your best to understand this.

If I wanted to blow ships up and make content. I can do that all day already. Anyone can.

Again, please try to understand why these are issues.
