How much "Elite: Dangerous" cost to develop

For first time FD seems to give out information how much game has cost to develop, in Telegraph article about anniversary of classic Elite.

There are two quotes:
In crowd-funding, Braben sees a brave new future for computer games. Just as Elite broke new ground in 1984, so Braben hopes Elite: Dangerous, which is costing £8 million to develop, will break the stranglehold of powerful commercial publishers and distributors who prefer guaranteed returns to risk-taking experiments.

Elite: Dangerous has another potentially revolutionary component; while more than £5 million of Frontier’s own money is being ploughed into the game, it is also one of the first, and certainly the biggest in the UK, to be part-funded via the crowd-funding website Kickstarter.

So around £3M from crowdfunding money has gone to financing the game, and it seems that FD is already on it's way to recoup development costs even before game is launched officially.
