PvP [PvP Noobie] Help with my Federal PVP's and such.

Hey guys. I'm new to PvP and have been doing some research/practise in open GC's and such. But I was wondering if any battle hardened veterans could spare their 2 cents?

So I got a vette all engineered and such, then thought maybe I'll try PvP. Got noped pretty hard by 4 FDL's in seconds. And when I thought I had 1 or 2 CMDRs in a fight, another 2 or so will appear and its NOPE city for me!

Anyway, this is what I was running at the time. Maybe it's just a PvE build atm

https://coriolis.io/outfit/federal_...vgGBnyOMJAQAAA==.EweloBhBmSQUwIYHMA28QgIwV0A=

I found that with all that shield, it went in a matter of seconds. Even when I used both SCB's it just vanished. Also, I noticed I immedietely took severe module damage even through I have 2 5D and 1 3D MRP. And all that hull meant nothing when I was just dead in the water (kinda why I have 3 MRP's but it seemed to do nothing?). I swear I was taking module damage through shields too, is that a thing? I thought only torps with reverb and rails with cascade did that?

So is there something I'm doing wrong in terms of my defenses?

In regards to the shooties. I found that the lasers did absolutely jack to them. I thought 2 smalls 2 mediums and and a large would have some impact but one FDL just sat there and took it like, "lol - laser noob EAT MEGA FDL DEATH!". My 2 huge mulitcanons are my favourite but I don't even get to use them when I cant even scratch their shields!

Anyway, I understand that being new to PvP specifically I may be misunderstanding a WHOOOOOOOOLE bunch of this.

So any constructive advice would be gratefully accepted and many thanks to you.

Fly safe CMDR's! See you out in the CG's!

PS. I'm building a FAS for less costly PvP endevours now too, anyone who flys FAS willing to share a build I can try and test for myself to get in that valuable fixed canon practise?

I looked at your build. The defenses are Ok. The weapons need help. And it says 8E power distro. You'll want an A rated distributor for sure. You need more damage. Lose the lasers. And get used to fixed guns. Pvp is all about the experimental effects and 3 of them Dazzle shell, dispersal field and target lock breaker will make those turrets and gimballs useless. You need to get some hard hitting fixed guns and practice. Get some plasma, some rails, some frags and cannons. Practice landing shots with FA off. Use everything you have to take shields down. This isn't PVE. Hold nothing back and hit them with everything you got. You don't know what their shields are weak too. It could be kinetics or thermal so hit them with both.

That Vette needs a lot of work.

Here's a simple FAS base w/o weapons: https://s.orbis.zone/hh3

I generally prefer PAs/rails, or frags/rails on my combat ships.

FAS is good. FDL is the meta PvP choice for a reason. PAs or Frags. PAs take a lot of practice. That's probably what the gankers used on you to take out your shields so fast. As far as the module damage, torps and grom bombs bypass shields and MRP. I just started using Rails. Rails are difficult.

Oh I have a 8A power distro I just made an error my bad. It's G5 CE. Yeah I think youre right with the weapons though. I ust need to get good and use fixed weapons, I'm just soooo bad atm lol. Thanks for the help!

Yeah the PvP guys taught me real quick the vette needs work lol. Thanks for the FAS template, I'll for sure check it out. I'm thinking to try PA/frags?

Consider a small or medium ship to start with. Mistakes in a Corvette are expensive!

Boy you're telling me! I saved up about 2 billion for that reason. But even so, it's a costly mistake and I should prob get exp in a cheaper ship first. I just love the vette so much. But I guess I'll have to love it and leave it until I get better at PvP lol.

Yeah I like the FDL but I kinda don't want to play it because everyone else is (I understand for good reason). Plus I'm a sucka for the federal drop/assault/gun ships. My favourite is the gunship but I'm sure its too underpowered atm. What does "grom" mean. I've seen people refer to stuff as getting "grommed" but I'm not sure what that means.

Thanks for the help everyone!

!

Both of those are fairly close range weapons, that's why a rail or two is nice.
I like to have something for close range/passing and something for a distance.
PAs and frags have different shot velocities, so I suggest choosing one or the other, as you won't be able to mix them effectively.

CMDR Morbad does pretty well in his Vette.

Another option to consider is the cheiftain or challenger. If you fly alone, you want speed to escape. Things can get ugly quick when you have multiple attackers. If you're in a wing of your own or fighting an honest duel, the gunship can work but it's slow speed can make bailing out kinds hairy. The dropship is tough as nails but requires alot of experience and calm piloting to be competitive with faster ships. It can be done though. Cheiftain is as easy to fly as a vulture on the other hand. Practice maximizing time on target and leading the target with fixed guns. The best practice is pvp of course, but lacking that, go to a CZ and practice shooting down vipers and eagles with plasmas. It's not the best money maker but it will help your aiming skills.

OP, 'Groms' refers to the missile awarded through pledging Yuri Grom for PowerPlay. It's a dumbfire missile that shuts down FSDs for a brief time. IIRC, it is the same effect as what you can apply to dumbfires via Engineering but with a slightly longer duration of FSD shut down and the ability to engineer it with an additional effect.

You have a relatively fragile PP and guardian module reinforcements. Chances are your GMRPs were doing nothing because the first time your PP malfunctioned you likely lost power to the GMRPs.

Anyway, I'd echo the recommendations to use a smaller ship until you have more experience. This isn't just a cost thing either; there are skills and habits that are easier to grasp in smaller vessels, as well as an understanding of what those smaller vessels can do, that will be very helpful when using larger ships.

I recommend to step out of your Vette and start with something simpler, maybe a Vulture. The Defenses are okay-ish but I'd run less boosters so you can armor your plant.
However, big ship pilots are insanely easy prey except for Cutters that are easy to use escape ships with the highest speed, MLF and shield value.

If you start in a Vulture you will learn alot about loadout decisions, manouvering and general resource management.
Also beware of bombers like me. While your ship is definately harder to bomb, lack of piloting skills and bad decisions will make it easy for me.

That said, I'd recommend to start in a Vulture as it will teach you alot about PvP and additionally, the rebuy isn't quite as high :p
