is anyone gaming in a shiny new RTX 20XX card in VR today?

Podnuts, thanks so much for this info. I'm currently on a GTX 1070 and based on reviews so far, I think this card'll be quite an increase in performance for 1440P and VR gaming.

Hi Zarrazee, no problems - I have a 1070ti in the living room PC (soon to be replaced with my old 1080ti) - it's a definite huge jump in performance. Expensive, but also future proofed, the real gains will be if DLSS takes off and also after the drivers have matured a little.

How did you got to the Extra Settings on you ED Profiller?

also, could you try this setup? this is the one that I'm running on my GTX 1070, the ASW is on all the time, but it's working ok, not great, but ok.

Sorry, I don't know how to post pictures here... forget about the last thing I asked..

the extra settings is the button to the right of the profile name under the save as new profile button :)

Thanks, this is my setup.

1080ti
4930k 4.5 ghz

2.0 hmd
All ultra except AO off.
AA on to reduce wandering jaggies

90 fps everywhere.

Off course with ASW kicking in most of the time.
But i have no issues with it.

So change to 2080ti is completely useless for me...

Until the new headsets are released :)

Hi Battle Wolf,

Yup that works, the only difference from my setup earlier is I had Terrain Material on Ultra and Jet cones on Ultra and SS on 1.25 - that pushed the card pretty hard, but it kept the 90fps, there were slight frame drops when jumping, but not enough to kick in ASW. Stations went constant ASW. I didn't have bloom on but will test that later this evening. I think I can push to SS 1.5 with HMD at 2.0 if I dropped shadow quality to high and over clocked the card.

I'll report back later.

I'd agree on that - if I hadn't blagged one through work I wouldn't have one right now.

So what are we to make of this? The extra bump to SS and HMD is nice for sure, but it seems clear at this point that any further refinements have to happen within the engine no? When was the last time Frontier optimised with VR in mind I wonder?

Sorry if I am dumb but how is 90fps everywhere but with ASW kicking in possible? Afaik asw means it's dropping to 45fps

its 45 genuine fps of course but ASW makes it look exactly like 90.
I have compared so i know by experience.

I dont have any issues with the ASW like some other people have.

So I have the graphics set in Elite as good as it can get and I get a what it looks like 90 fps. No reason to upgrade.

Great info in this thread!

I've decided to wait until the Gen 2 headsets with wider field of view and higher pixel density come out, as I'm currently happy with how my gen 1 headsets work with my GTX 10 cards.

So far for Gen 2 hmds, I think the Primax 5K is in the lead, but Oculus Connect is this week and hopefully we'll find out about a CV2.

Also would be nice if Vive released a wide fov version of the Pro.

We've been over that with him a few times... it just doesn't sink in and he doesn't realise how confusing and mis-informative it is to people when he make such claims.

I think essentially, if you're running comparisons (e.g. one set of graphic settings vs. another, or one card vs. another) then you need to turn ASW off in order to get the actual, variable, frame rate that your graphics card is capable of producing - otherwise it's always just 90 or 45). On the other hand, if the ASW artefacting doesn't bother you (e.g. wobbly lines in menu interfaces, etc) then, if you're simply trying to get the max settings you can for your own setup, I think it's fine to strive for 90fps all/most of the time with ASW turned on.

I do not disagree - when we're talking about performance we should really be talking about native performance, not software which makes up lost frames to "fake" 90FPS.

If people like ASW then all the power to them but when talking about it be honest with others and yourself, a setup requiring ASW is not 90FPS everywhere and such claims are both confusing to others and misleading.

Ideally when we're discussing frame rates we should breaking performance down to certain areas of the game and the frame rates obtained in those areas, native and reprojected (if used). Areas such as:

- Station Exteriors / Interiors
- Planet Surfaces
- Planet Surface Stations
- RE Sites
- SRV usage

Absolutely!

If people can tolerate the software solution to low frame rates in VR then good for them. But for (I think) most of the people that follow the goings on of the VR forum there are two main themes..... Resolution and/or Frame rates. People want 90FPS and higher res than currently possible.

...Buy a 1080Ti or a 2080; benchmarks aren't looking good on a £/performance ratio. My guess is sales will be so bad they will have to lower prices big time within the next few months.

It is just a big fat don't buy from most sources...
I'm planning to buy a 2080Ti, because I want the best framerate possible for my Pimax 5/8K. I'm going to wait a bit and see if the price drops.

I think a lot of us would like to hear your thoughts on Elite in the Primax with the 2080
