EGO (+ + +)........................!
Whom he actually was (as a person) is the only thing that sours me on the original Star trek. His ego was so big it put a wedge between him and the other actors, except for Nimoy and i will never forget the interview he did with Patrick Stewart.
My god, Shatner just dumps all over Stewart for no reason. It was some kind of Paramont round table thing (a bonus feature on the original series box set for the films (not TV series)), where the two 'Captains' of Star Trek and a couple of the other actors (Nimoy and Frakes iirc) from the show where there to chat about their experiences etc.
It all starts of well enough, with some great opening stuff between Shatner and Nimoy, then after about 10 mins of that they get around to entering Patrick Stewart into things (and do keep in mind we are talking about an experienced serious actor here, like as cultured and good a 'cv' as you can get) and right away Shatner interrupts Patrick (in mid-flow) to 'admit' he has never bothered to watch TNG, like it is some afterthought in relation to Star Trek and not important, and neither are the actors that were in it.
You can see the stunned expression on Patrick Stewart's face, and then Nimoy expertly interrupts the situation (I guess he is used to dealing with Shatner) to diffuse the situation.
But talk about a low-blow and totally not called for, not in the manner he did it. It was totally "I don't care about TNG because I wasn't in it".
So yeah that along with the stories from the other original series actors, just totally put 'Captain Kirk' in the bad-egg corner for me. He is a total dooshbag by all accounts, which is a shame as his role as Kirk was orders of magnitude a 'better' person than he himself seems to be!
