PvP Long range/Focused/Efficient/Overcharge

Sooo guys... It's me again.. (After a ban..) *Waves stupidly*

I was wondering what you all though of the Pa upgrades and thier potential...

Like Long range vs Focused vs Efficient vs Overcharge..

Which is best, and which would you reccomend?

:D o7 folks.

Also.. Where's our C1 Pa Frontier ;) hint hint...

I've only tried efficient so far. Will move on to long range next. I hear those are for low skilled pilots like me.

Legacy focused with thermal reduction secondaries... Uh too bad can't roll that any more /sad

Yeah.. I'm not one of those guys whose extra slobbery they got something everyone else did'nt. I'm happier with the level playing field.. = skill. Not whose RNGneering comes off better ty ;)

OK, to answer a bit more serious:

I'd go Efficient with phasing to max out potential bleed-through damage.

Or alternativly Focused with tlb/dispersal for more easy hits on target.

Long range sounds not too bad either, but the additional mass goes a bit against my credo of maximum speed.
And you won't hit with PAs at 7km either, so the big range addition and higher falloff is more useless then the focused armor piercing raise.
So I'd prefer focused, with the caveat of a hopefully sometimes possible stealth buff heat reduction with TLB/Dispersal/???

I've been messing with a FDL build right now that features four medium long range PAs and a huge long range cannon. All shot speeds matched at about 1600 m/s. The PAs are not legacy. What I did was go one TLB and three thermal conduit then dispersal on the cannon.

With an armored PP and the thermal efficiency secondary I can juggle my heat via boosting just well enough to get the extra damage from thermal conduit any time I want. Really fun!

Which one is easiest for noobs to hit targets, focused or long range? The dmg is secondary for me if I can't hit the broad side of a barn. I'm only accurate with my efficient PAs at close range.

Give long range a go for sure. At Grade 5 you're looking at multicannon round shot speed with relatively small weight increase. Regarding the loss in speed and agility due to weight, consider your targeting solution will be a lot closer to your target than normal PA shot speeds. In a way, it's an agility buff.

Regarding the 'noobishness' of this, consider in PvP ships are the fastest they can possibly get now. 'God rolls for everyone.' Projectile speed did not increase. Long range just makes great sense in this regard.

Thanks. What's your opinion on APA vs PA in the context of accuracy?

Range and thereby shot speed are imho identical and so they are both equally easier to hit with.
Long range has the full distance without falloff, focused has still falloff but I think at G5 it starts at 4km,
good luck hitting anything at higher range, so this is theoretically an advantage for long range only.

Edit APA vs PA shot speed is identical, but APA has thrice the ammo and way higher rate of fire.

I've never used APAs, but based on what I know from those that have they really shine depending on the effect (TLB being the most infamous one). Regular PAs got that sweet, sweet damage and seem the superior choice all things being equal.

To Bigmaec's point about range and shot speed with Long Range vs. Focused my decision is based on the downsides. I'd rather have a little extra weight than a little extra thermal load (especially since the build I mentioned above is dialed in so goddamn tight heat wise :D ).

APACs are IMO better than regular plasma due to heat being less of an issue, and also the smaller miss penalty, especially important against smaller ships. I believe they do more damage over time too. The possible exception might be PvP where it's a lot of head on passes - regular plasma does ~2.5x the damage in the single shot that you might get to take.

I suggest efficient, until they can fix the thermal load thing.
It's not a long range weapon.

But APAs have less damage per shot.
It's a time on target issue.

I mix in a single OC APA on my Krait and FGS, to fit with the efficient PAs.
That way I can spam TLB but the APA still has some punch, and the projectile speeds are the same.

Focused if you have trouble aiming.

Efficient in most cases, there's no drawbacks, only positive effects.

Overcharged if you have some extra power, and the distributor can handle it. I usually try to sneak on an overcharged or two when I can.

TLB is easily the most useful experimental. I'd advise against phasing unless you're really going to commit. All phasing or none at all in that case.

Right on boiis.

After trying to run x1 focused, x1 LR c2, and a LR c4, I decided o opt back to Efficient/OC combo as the heat is lesser and they have CONSIDERABLE hitting power with the current build so happy days

I tried Focused next. Inara is missing a few modifiers on its page, such as "shot speed".
