is anyone gaming in a shiny new RTX 20XX card in VR today?

I'm planning to buy a 2080Ti, because I want the best framerate possible for my Pimax 5/8K. I'm going to wait a bit and see if the price drops.

I really hope they are forced to lower prices due to lack of demand though I don't take issue with people that buy them anyway. I totally understand why people into VR would fork out for a 2080Ti. I was warning Mad Mike that they are a really poor value more than anything (though I expect he was aware).

Hopefully the red team will do a comeback like they did with Ryzen and technological progress won't be defined by sky high prices and Nvidia proprietary tech.

Me too. Though I'll substitute "if the price drops" to "when it drops". There is no way I am paying over £1000 for a graphics card. £500-£700, no problem. Even if I have to wait 2 years, that's fine, by then we might have atmospheric landings or space legs.

cancelled my gigabyte windforce 2080ti so I will no longer be joining the RTX club.
It's a bit of a protest vote for them gimping the bios on the windforce 2080ti to more separate from the gaming OC.
Not that gigabyte willcare and even worse my protest is even more lame because guess what card I got instead.... The cheap(relatively) 1080ti on overclockers which is..... Gigabyte!

You gone for 1080ti sli?

Still getting a 2080 ti when I go back to UK in Dec. I have a 980ti and a 1080 in my two rig ATM so will be a nice step up!

Sorry if I am dumb but how is 90fps everywhere but with ASW kicking in possible? Afaik asw means it's dropping to 45fps

No, it is absolutely not hitting 90 and in anywhere but deep space it's not hitting 45 with those settings. My 2080 Ti will be here in a few hours and it's not going to hit those numbers, period. Show me video proof that it's not dropping frames constantly with those settings and I'll send you $100 cash. That's the equivalent of 2 4k displays at ultra settings, even at 45 fps with a 1080 Ti that is flat out impossible.

Ugh.

I'll have some accurate benchmarks comparing my 1080 to the 2080 Ti in a few days with, you know, actual technical facts.

Ive been using a rift cv2 on windows 10 and upgraded from 1080 to 2080. Ive been playing with the 2080 for over a week now. If you think that upgrading to 2080 from a 1080 is going to get rid of those little micro-stutters or allow you to increase a lot of settings it hasn't for me. Its hasnt been worth the expense for such little gain. Also Id avoid upgrading from 1803 to 1809 as this has increased the stuttering noticeably. I don't know what it is with the way Elite is programmed or rendered but there seems to be a stutter every time an NPC or something else pops into your session. Its almost like these things interrupt or block the main rendering thread. It drives me nuts!

CV2? They're not out yet.

Not sure why you are getting all these micro-stutters. I am running a GTX 1070 on a i7-8700 @4.7, with a CV1 on Windows 10 and it's smooth as silk. Whenever it does start to stutter, it's usually cos I'm in Open during peak times - I log off or switch to Private/solo.

Upgraded from 1803 to 1809 and no stutters here (play in Solo/PG only when in VR), except the short freeze when dropping into a system but that happens in both 2D and VR (does everyone get that?). buzzle if you are getting frequent microstutters I would start reinstalling stuff i.e. uninstall ED then Oculus then nvidia drivers then reinstall. But first try a few different nvidia drivers as there can be big variations between them. Failing that the last time I had stutters in VR a Windows 'Fresh Start' fixed it.

I've just ordered 300 to do some Bit Mining. Luckily I ordered just in time, as I grabbed the last lot. Happy gaming folks.

You hit the nail on the head Avago Earo, this will help keep the price of the 2080ti's up. I'm on a 980ti at the moment, and at this price I'll be on a 980ti for a while yet. I'm just happy e-coins are still on a general decline.

my 1080ti is now in the post, should arrive tomorrow.
I must admit i am a bit dissapointed i am not going for a 2080ti but imo this just isnt the generation for me to go big on. With hindsite i wish i had got the 1080ti 12 months back but hey ho.

my only dilemma is should i have paid the extra £120 for the vanilla 2080. its nip/tuck the same speed in old games as the 1080ti but going forward i think will edge out the 1080ti card.

if DLSS and rtx take off of course it will smash it into the ground.... it was a tough call for me that one.

hopefully in 18 months - 2 years i can re-evaluate.

I've read in this thread that someone is waiting for a CV2 to come out, and someone else who's already using one. What gives??

Just checked latest news from various places and from the info i can see looks like there WILL be a CV2, but anytime between mid 2019 to late 2020. And I thought my wait was over :(

They are either confused, or lying.
I'm going with the former.

I'm quite certain oculus doesn't even have a fully functional cv2 even in their deepest test basement.

Let alone any schedule for the release of one.
There is only outside market pundits who guess at a possible q3 2019 release.

But I honestly think it would have garnered at least a mention the oculus event if so was the case so it might very well be late 2020.

any link? the latest i've seen announced is oculus quest, which isn't exactly a cv2, it's more an 'oculus go 2'.

they did have some prototypes a while ago for more advanced headsets, but nothing as been announced afaik.

There's this https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/69766/rift-cv2-is-confirmed

edited: this from the same forum but earlier: https://forums.oculusvr.com/communi...on-the-rift-cv2-confirming-abrash-predictions

A few more are either too early or simply speculation.

I'll be getting a 2080 next march. along with whatever the flavor is of new processor exists and motherboard to match.
