Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

:O

I love the T7! 288T cargo capacity, jumps almost 40ly, great at evading interdictions, I made a fortune from mine, it's my favourite ship so far in the game!

Except this week I saved up that fortune and bought a T9, which I also love, although I have a 7A shield, engineered shield boosters, engineered fast boot FSD and a fighter hangar, so I just always submit, send my pilot after them and am gone in a puff of smoke. So I guess I just have a thing for T series ships.

We're all different!

288t... you have my attention now! Could you share a few details of your loadouf? Interested in your FSD thrusters and cargo rack configuration in particular. I'd really appreciate it.

Happy to in principle, absolutely... but I'm on Xbox (work from home, way too tempting to put Elite on the PC..!) and have never used any of the online portals where you can share ship specs.

I'll be on Elite this evening, so will be able to give you the longhand version on here (I'll type it out longhand, think of it as an homage to the original, 1984 Elite). From memory, the ship is all A rated, the FSD is engineered for more range, and it runs a point defence and then three engineered A rated shield boosters on its utility hubs. No weapons, a 3C bi-weave shield. ADS, Planetary Surface Scanner, then the rest is cargo racks, which gives me 288T. But I will check this evening and give you the whole lowdown.

I love the ship as it is very manoeuvrable when being interdicted (have never lost), with A rated thrusters it is very easy to land, it is quick enough that I can take on some planets which are a fair way away, jump distance is plenty good enough (in the thirties), so with my regular extended trading lap around 8-10 planets where I am Allied or Friendly it was making me millions. Bought me a T9 plus outfitting really pretty quickly. I am now slightly addicted to deploying my fighter from the T9, plus getting stuck into the fight myself (hauling 512T while winning fights against decent (NPC) opposition is a hoot) but thusfar the T7 has been my best ship by some margin. It's a money-making machine yet cheap to buy. Base ship is 17m or so, yet I was making more than that in an hour's trading with it. What's not to like?!

Here is a 300t loadout: http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=B0X8,...K40Bcg0,,0AA00AA00AA008c008c008c07Pc005U003w0

Fitting scanners to the smaller slots takes it down to 288 (1 x 8 and 1 x 4).

This has G5 long-range to the FSD, no other mods. 2 PDT and 2 0A boosters for 3A shield gen (I wouldn't use bi-weaves an anything but combat ships).

Play with the build to see what you would / could do ( I wouldn't fly with 3A shields I'd rather have 5A but that reduces cargo by 24t).

Yes that will be very close to mine - as you say, I have the double scanners, costing me the final 12T, and I just love a bi-weave, me, I'm never interdicted anyway so use them more for those rough landings.

So @Tyres O'Flaherty - what he said!

Thanks Commanders! It seems the T7 is available in a system near me and I have the blueprints I need (mostly) pinned so this may be something I'll try later.

Some of the missions I'm seeing require more space than my T6 has to offer so the T7 could become a viable option. In one way I'll be sad though - this T6 has become a great quick short haul money spinner... she'll remain in dry dock though as I hate to sell and I eventually want one of every ship.

I was the same. Ended up refitting my T6 as passenger vessel/long range trip runner (for instance visiting engineers), my T7 as an explorer, have the T9 for cargo and am just in the process of fitting my Keelback for mining. Just need to save up for a T10 and I have the full set! Only then they'll release the T8...

.. and I just love a bi-weave, me,..........

..........

We shall have to cure you of that then. ;)

Seriously, compared to an A grade - same mass, much lower shield strength for just a small reduction in power draw. If you don't want the fast regen of a combat build then a bi-weave seems a chimera to me. :)

Yeah, those are really two main schools of thinking.
A-rated - Survive occasional high burst of damage (pirate interdiction, etc.). Good especially for any non-combat build
Bi-weave - More "shield up-time" to limit hull damage for combat ships.

There are nuances, of course, for ships with unusually high base shield rating (Courier, FdL, Cutter) where you are better off with maximizing the shields, because you get more gains from the same percentual upgrades (engineers, boosters)

That being said... I use bi-weaves on many ships because I like the colour. :x

After much toing and frowing in Sothis and Ceos, I've decided to stop chasing naval ranks and move on; it has become a grindfest I'm afraid and I can't do those anymore :D ... I'd thought I'd seen the back of those with Everquest! Hah!

Now... what to do next? That Krait II is tempting me but I also need to get my Clipper out. Er... yeah. And use it. Er... quite. Ahem. Perhaps I'll give an RES a serious go although I'm not sure if the Clipper would be superior to my Vulture. Time to find out once I get back to civilisation.

ETA having re-read this post, I am slightly concerned I've been watching too many "reviews" by The Yamiks.

I'm about to go exploring. Or do another bout of engineering. I'm not sure which, and if I can't decide, I'll do something else instead IRL.

Well, after some detours and distractions I finally made it to one of the Prai Hypoo systems with braintrees (PRAI HYPOO QC-C D19, although there are bunch of them). Must be getting the hang of lat-long navigation: only took a few minutes in planetary orbit to get within a couple of seconds of each target, and put the trusty Asp down. Very dark, but the SRV scanner lit up like a Christmas tree and after a minute or two driving, crested a ridge. And there they were.

Very impressive, very spooky, very much worth the trip! Lots of surface mineral deposits, and the trees themselves give up a lot of mats, including rarer types like antimony.

Unfortunately, I managed to stuff up the screenshots yet again... thought I had the hang of it now but there's nothing in my ED picture folder. I'm still on the planet though, so I'll try to put some up later.

Edit: One hour later and after trying multiple tests, I am unable to save screenshots. Neither F10 nor ALT-F10 works (although the latter shows a percentage complete counter). Just raised it with support, so we'll see what happens.

Sounds intriguing, looking forward to seeing your snaps!

On that note, I have noticed that the F10 screenshot saves to a different directory - a bespoke one specified by the games as opposed to your default \pictures. I'm afraid I forget the path but it's not completely obvious.

Edir: my plan for later is to hop into Alliance territory to see what's there. Looks like I picked up a data point thing somewhere along the line that needs handing in. Not an ambitious journey, I know, but I don't think I've been before.

Oh, and, as I have the permit, a trip to Hors and possibly a jaunt the capital of the Empire. We'll see...

Today I’m ruefully looking back on the last leg of my trip back from Beagle Point.

I decided to stop in at Vihara Gate in Kashyapa on my way back to restock my AFMU, buy some wine gums and stretch my legs. Having played for ten months I confidently decided to keep hold of my data and sell it to some engineers on my return to the bubble, first stop Khun to help unlock Messrs Quent and Palin.

After bumbling around the last 18kly or so getting some more system scans I rolled into Khun around 8am this morning. Confident and comfortable with my return to the bubble, all too familiar in the Krait that I picked up in Colonia for my second Cmdr. Only forgetting that this Krait doesn’t have G5 thrusters, forgetting that my shields were still off, forgetting that most accidents happen in the home and forgetting that the bubble has higher G planets.

Watching my Krait get sucked into the surface, with no effective thrust, and losing all my data was a hard lesson, particularly when I thought I’d learned those lessons a long time ago. All I have now are some EDSM badges, screen shots, the knowledge I’m a plonker and a long slog to be ready for the Distant Worlds 2 trip.

Tomorrow’s another day.

:( :( :(

That's rough :(

Hope the wine-gums were good, at least.

As a fairly new player, I had no idea that we could pin blueprints!! So I am going back to pin some blueprints and when I return to LHS 20 I will finally buy my Python. Although that T7 sounds tempting.

Wow, Rock....I'm really sorry to hear about that :( Too much gravity!

A cautionary reminder to us all to double-check all of these things before we land after a long exploration excursion (like I'm returning from).

Wine gums are perfect for when you don't smoke....

Yep, it's far too easy to forget the simple things when you return home. So, seeing as you say you're on your way home.....remember this thread and my stupidity :D you've been out longer than I was, I'd hate to think how much you'd lose in a similar situation!

Elite has a kink on player complacency. Without fail, the moment you let your guard down, knowing that nothing can surprise you, anymore, a devil that is Elite comes up and kicks you in the teeth.
If it makes you feel any better, I still have these moments even after four years of playing. It doesn't get any better, it only makes you feel more stupid.

Gotta love it. :D
