X52 Pro vs Logitech g13

Many have probably not tried the g13 yet...
But, was trying to find out how well it worked with this game..

And if those who have the x52 pro (cause I will probably purchase this over a x55) how does it work with elite?

Enough buttons?
Does the throttle stick control the throttle in progression or if you nudge it does it go to Mac speed?

(I currently have the logitech extreme 3d) the little throttle makes the speed go crazy.

I used to play with the Logitech Extreme 3D, and the throttle worked very well. All you need to do is assign the throttle as an axis, not as buttons "throttle increase/decrease". Worked fine for me.

Since a few days I am using the X52 (non pro version). Once you figured out a favourite button layout and got used to have a shipload more buttons, it's really sweet. I'm loving it so far!

A good thread about getting a X52 to work properly: CLICK ME!

I used to use the Logitech G13 for E:D - I found it worked well. The little stick is analogue and works great in conjunction with the keys for FA/off especially, but I didn't want to train in getting really good using a controller so unique. I still used the big keyboard for some things but if I had set up the profiles and got used to them that would not have been necessary. I was also using voice attack for some things, but I think the G13 could cope on it's own (with a mouse) if set up well.

I still use it to report GPU etc stats on the LCD while playing E:D.

If you do want to stick with the G13 I can say that it is a great device, I have switched to a X-55 Rhino and I am still not as good with FA/off as I was with the G13. Maybe just a matter of practice.

I have the X52 pro and it works amazingly. I spent a lot of time setting up custom key configs but it was well worth it. If you get the X52 pro and want it, let me know and I can upload an updated profile.

I would also highly recommend modifying the throttle to remove the detents. If you have any experience with a screw driver then you'll not have any problem and it can easily be reversed. You'll find that (especially on the lower side) you'll want the precision that is lost as the 25% detent is engaging/disengaging.

really depends on your price range, and what you want to invest in your Elite: Dangerous experience. maybe you should stick with the logitech extreme and get one of those diy headtrackers

X52 non-pro here. Started with mouse/kb... ummm no. Went to a handy PS3 controller, that lasted about a day before I shelled out for a real stick.

Loving it... it has almost enough buttons (would love to see five toggles instead of three)... wish the rotaries, slider, and display worked but that's just a matter of FD putting in axis settings for various controls and allowing the game to output data to a screen.

Really interested in the G13 but that tiny little stick that just isn't precise enough for me and the lack of obvious weapon triggers don't lend it to an combat aircraft/spaceship role. It'd be great to use alongside the X52 in place of a regular KB, and use the little stick for landing thrusters but I wouldn't want to sacrifice the X52 for it.

Well now I'm confused..
The x55 is not much more $$ than the x52 pro.. listed on Newegg

Would like to have trackir coupled with an x55 (might be overkill)

But the x55 reviews have not be up to par as I expected

Can't comment on the X55, but but I can on headtracking (I use the ED Tracker myself) and it's not overkill, it's a natural progression and once you've used it you'll wonder how you flew without it. Occulus Rift would be lots betterer of course, but that's a rich kid's toy and I aint no rich kid. :)

I'd go HOTAS every time. I have an X52 myself and I dont need to lift my hands away from either throttle or stick at any time from launch to docking unless I'm needing to use the galmap. I use FaceTrackNoIR and my existing webcam for face tracking, with one button on the stick bound to recenter the tracking, because it does drift a little. Theres a few things I wish I had spare buttons to bind macros to so I'm thinking about perching my tablet between the stick and throttle and trying out Roccat Power-Grid :)

What is this?? ED has a tracker specifically for this game?

No... and yes. Confused? Let me explain.

A group of three players have designed their own head tracker, intended to be a much much cheaper option than Track IR and Occulus Rift... BUT it's a DIY option. If you're handy with a soldering iron you can build and program this thing very simply yourself (it's only three parts and a button that need soldering together), and if you're not confident they'll do the hard bits for you for a little bit more. It's designed around an "Arduino" (a simple computer-on-a-chip) and an accelerometer (the same chip smart phones use to sense movement), all of which is housed in in a little box about the size of a box of matches or a tic tac box.

Track IR works by having a specialised camera on your computer and having you wear some reflectors on your head, ED Tracker has you wear the sensor on your head (mounted on headphones typically, tho I use speakers so I bought a plastic hair band to mount it) which in my opinion is actually more accurate and less likely to get confused. There's also "FreeTrack" which uses a web cam (many people use a PS3 camera) and has you mounting 3 small lights on your head. As the name suggests the software is free, but you have to supply your own hardware for FreeTrack.

You can find the thread for ED Tracker here.

I am in the US..
Where can I get the diy tracker?

Pre made would be even better

Here.

Note that even if you get them to make it for you, you're just gonna get a couple of circuit boards soldered together and programmed. You're still gonna have to figure a little box to put it in, get a USB lead (same as the one you use for your cell phone) to plug it into the computer, and figure a way to mount it on your head (rubber bands and headphones is easiest). This isn't a finished product, it's a project. If you're not comfortable with that you might want to get the Track IR instead. But if you're comfortable doing some of the work yourself and you want to spend ~$30 instead of ~$300, get the Ed Tracker. :)

Read all about it on that website or on the thread I linked in my previous message.

You won't regret it.

pssha *adjusts monocle*, $150USD not $300. I know it is still a lot of money. lol.

Does the usb lead start plugged into the device?

Huh? Don't quite follow you. If you're asking if it comes with a USB lead... no. Just borrow your cell phone's USB lead, or go spend $2 at your local computer shop. Heck, my local grocery store sells them. :)

Sorry.. autocorrect on my phone.

Does the usb lead need to "stay" plugged in to the ED unit while you are using it?
